I would love to give you an acurate figure, but we don't move over till March.

However, I would reckon you'll need at least $3500 in your pocket each month just to exist.

More experienced folk with actual figures will be along shortly, lol.

Car insurance, $200
TTC pass 2*128.50 2*106
Internet/TV 125
Mobile phones 4*100?
Rent 2,000+ (I suppose the maximum is around $12,000)
House Insuance, tenant package, 100
Food, I suppose baked beans and oranges would run $600 or so, daily beef Wellington will be more, much more if you don't skimp on oyster based snacks and catered deserts.

Re: ONTARIO MONTHLY COSTS

Hi,

We are a family of four, been in the East of Toronto for just over a year now.
Have a Presto card for GO train to Union every weekday (22 mins) - $200 monthly.
Rogers package with HD PVR, movies, sports and HBO etc. - $150 monthly.
Rogers family cell package with 3 cells ( wouldn't allow us four when we first came but OH has work cell)- $200 pm.
Car insurance for a 2011 minivan was $5500 for the first year! We have since managed to find a company that took our DVLA driving history and got it down to $1600. Funny how that now seems reasonable?! The van has been invaluable for loading up with Ikea furniture and visiting relatives.
We have our own house now but we rented for a year. 3 bed condo townhouse with garden maintenance, snow removal and use of a pool was $1650 a month + utilities. When we looked to rent in downtown areas the cost was considerably more...we looked at some real dumps that cost over $2500 per month. We did find a decent apartment but it was an eye watering $3300 monthly. We weren't prepared to pay that. Depends on circumstances, I guess.
Food bills vary; we do basics at No Frills and top up from local shops. We have two teenagers and they have friends...the fridge gets raided often! Kids and OH take packed lunches everyday. $150 weekly, sometimes more, but not taking into account the top ups.
It's not cheap to live here but we didn't find it cheap in the UK either...it seems to balance out.
Good luck with your potential move.

2 bedroom apartment on the edge of Guelph. When I lived in Ottawa we had a 2 bedroom apartment for $800. Isn't hard to find reasonable rent prices if you look.

I think it would be very hard to find another 2 bedroom apartment in or near Guelph for $600.
