We need a break on the electricity bills, using cheap generating capacity owned by the province at Niagara Falls and at nuclear plants to offset higher-cost power from other sources.
The energy minister ( Mr Duncan ) needs to sort out a huge mess in Ontario's electricity market, where shortages have led to soaring prices and deregulation by the previous government.
The so-called "heritage power" available from plants that Ontario Power has already paid for, such as Niagara Falls and nuclear power stations, should be used to provide lower-than-market prices.
Am i the only one miffed by hydro prices?

I dont think we should have some God given right to Hydro that costs us less than it costs to generate and distribute, but what pisses me off is that we end up paying off a generations worth of debt generated building the nuclear stations so that the government can sell of the newly debt free Hydro system to its friends, and then pocket the proceeds.
If they couldnt make it attractive enough to sell including the debt, then they should have either written it off themselves (in which case we pay for it anyway) or just not sold it. Deregulation has never worked anywhere else it has been tried (Alberta, UK etc.) so why did they think it would work here?
So in short we end up with the debt payment and increased Hydro costs. Great, that worked out well eh?
