I've kept UK Nationwide and Halifax online accounts while in Canada without any problems. They now post the statements to the address in Canada. They will let you keep on existing accounts but won't let you open any new accounts once resident outside the UK (unless you use their offshore facilities but I've never bothered looking into that).

In theory I can send money from my Nationwide account to my TD account using the online service but I've never tried. The TD online service doesn't have the facility to transfer money to an overseas account so I need to go to a branch for that.

All the UK cards have worked in Canada without any problems and I use them in the UK sometimes and for UK online orders.

Unless you have a UK income going into the account.

I have to check if Barclays has the same claus,
as I want to (when I get back there properly) transfer money a bit at a time,
just so I have an account here with some money in it.

I dont know if they do this because of money laudering or tax purposes.

Also not sure if its better to transfer the whole lot through a proper agency which will give me a better rate

good question and thanks for the point !

Having re-read the OP's comment further down the page, it looks like the OP is looking to use Halifax online while residing in Canada (unless i read incorrectly). If that's the case, i don't think they will be able to move money around or use the facility correctly through a Non UK IP address.

Here's the wording from Halifax online

Yes, but if you are then having to transfer cash to Canada...the exchange rate will get you, the other way around too.
lol

I don't transfer, just pay off the card with the UK income but it's all very much a heads they win, tails you lose situation.
