Online Bank Security - Personal Card Readers - Can you buy these in Canada?
Hi all,
We're having such a difficult time trying to get our money from the UK across to Canada. Natwest won't transfer any money without one of those card reader things, they won't ship one to Canada and we don't have one. Can you buy them anywhere in Canada? :S |

While you can't transfer using online banking, have you tried telephone banking instead?
Overseas +44 8705 888444 :) It looks like we'll have to order one and get it shipped to parents address, for them to then ship it over here (and then the wait for the transfer to go through). That unfortunately takes time, like at least 2 weeks. I was planning on buying a car on Thursday... =[ |

Why don't you try using another service to transfer your money then? We transferred with Oanda, money went out of various banks in the UK and arrived at Bank of Montreal in Canada in 3-4 days I think. Even if you did the transfer with NatWest it may not arrive by Thursday. But it might be easier to use another service. (And there's a decent chance you'd get better rates. A search on the board will bring up oodles of threads where people have talked about various services they've used.)

Smile bank had them for a time. I needed it even for paying a bill on line. I still have a UK address with them and my mum sent it to me. But they don't use them anymore.
On a side note, they don't even want to know my "travel plans" anymore for an out of UK withdrawal from a cashpoint. |

Why don't you use an FX broker and have the money transferred to them? Alternatively write yourself a cheque and deposit it into a Canadian account.

A cheque from an international bank for that amount of money would take quite awhile to clear, no?

Do Natwest have a smartphone App for online banking?
Barclays does and there is a feature that works instead of their PinSentry card reader, to generate the login code for online banking to enter on your PC. You don't want to be using NatWest to transfer the money. Their fees and poor exchange rate will mean that a FX company will result in a larger number of $ arriving in your account. |

i Brought a Nat West bankers draft and it cleared into my new canadian account in two hours, Only time that doesnt work is when its one of the old building societies that converted to a bank, those drafts i have known take 90 days to clear, so long as the draft is with an old well established bank there was no problems with them.
