... or if you end up at RIM... :P hahahaha... Bear in mind that RIM receives 11000 applications A WEEK. Scary eh? They seem to be happy to employ people that meet the job description 80% or so.

I've been to the DUKE of Wellington in Waterloo...

Awra best!

Just out of curiousity...what's the IT job situation like in K-W (besides RIM)? It's one of the areas we're looking at (I'm a software tester, OH is in systems support and development), but if competition is that high at RIM, and there isn't much else in the area, we may rule it out. We're torn between Ottawa (which we really like), K-W (which we have yet to visit) and Mississauga/GTA, which we're not thrilled with, but a job's a job at the end of the day...

Yup! A job's a job... :-D ... there's a few places for IT peeps in the area, this is (afterall!) the "Technology Triangle" ... just on this street alone we have Raytheon, RIM, Agfa, Opentext, IBM ... I downloaded a document once that has all the techie companies in the area. It's a couple of years old...
... as for RIM, check out THIS PAGE

If you want that doc, let me know...

Cheers!

If you've still got that document, that would be great. I did a similar one for Ottawa, found something like 400 companies within 50km of Ottawa!

Regarding the GO train.... I'll believe it when I see it..... cities much closer to Toronto have greater transportation needs and are a higher priority than K/W.

Yah, I know someone that knows someone. :-P I think it's 2007, and it's going to use the existing Via Rail (obv). A LOT of peeps commute into K-W from Toronto and the likes - so it'll make HUGE sense. We're not that far away, and I've seen the GO train and buses go further than K-W. We were up at Earl Rowe PP and there was a GO bus sign...

Still... I wouldn't hold my breath on a GO train for K/W. I thought light rail transport (just through K-W-C) was to go ahead first.

It wasn't long ago that the Ontario Gov. rejected a GO train for K/W.

Ah yes, W - my most confused consonant. Must have been the brewery I was thinking of?

Actually was over at the Conestoga mall in Waterloo this afternoon. Think I'm retailed out.

Best wishes

What an awesome post!!! its so nice to hear a sucess story. I think what Rich 007 says in his signature says it all "happily employed, happy Immigrant' or something along those lines.

I found when i landed and was working shite jobs I was miserable now im in a great job with an excellent company Im very happy here and dont hardly think about going home.

Good luck for many more years of happiness to you both and well done for getting as far as you have!

THAT'S WHERE IT IS!!!" ... :-P Now I know where you're at. :-D Conestoga's an alright mall, although it took me about 4 months to figure out how to pronounce it! "con-EST-ta-GA" was how I was doing it, Japanese stylee.. Weber = Weeber and not Webber, Pfft. Crazy North Americans.

Going to see Spamalot today!
