Default One way ticket

My husband has had his PNP approval letter and we need to go to Canada on a work permit. At the moment I gather they are taking around 12 weeks to process. If we fly out and apply at POE do we have to buy return plane tickets. I have been told that planes won't let you board with out a return ticket if you have no wp or visa. I really can't afford to buy us all return tickets and just waste the fare money.
Is it possible to collect a wp from the embassy in person perhaps?

Thanks Sandra

My friend (freshstart) went out in April on a one way ticket and collected her WP at the POE and she had no problems at all and never had to purchase a return ticket. I have heard many do this and they have never had a problem either.

Hope this helps

I know she booked with Canadian Affair, and flew with Thomas Cook. If you want to know about Canadian Affair (if you don't already) there is a thread on here about it.

We found that one way tickets were more expensive than returns so check that out first.......
we bought returns then cancelled the return flight once we were here....

Good luck!!

I have thought of this but at the moment they are all charging each way. I have looked at most of the flights including BA

When I booked, a one-way ticket cost about the same as a return.

Except that Gordon Brown's obscene airline taxes weren't included in the 'ticket price', and once they were added that left the one-way about 3/4 of the price of the return.
