Re: Oil Sector

Hi, Im looking to get into the sector generally. Ideally I should stay with construction and work as a superintendent as that is where my Industry skills are and where I could earn a respectful wage . I am willing to go into the bush and work on Camp set ups or Upgrades, expansion projects. I have 3.5 yrs Canadian exp ,1 as a Special projects Superintendent. PR and several Oil patch specific tickets. Carpenter by trade, that has worked his way up to site management and project management over 20 years. Well rounded in commercial and residential. I am in the UK at present but I am returning to Calgary with my family on 13 June to re settle. I would be happy to send you my resume and would be extremely thankful if you would pass it to the appropriate managers. The last sizeable job I managed here was £1.3M fitout of a £20m Global HQ for an Aviation Co in sussex. I have an excellent reference for this job as it was completed on time and on budget. I am very comfortable working in a fast track environment.
I would like to land work of this value and higher in canada.

If you send me your email address I will forward the resume .

Many thanks.
Steve.

Hey!
Specifically what work are you looking for? I work for a oil and gas management company in Calgary. May or may not be able to forward your resume onto the right people. Remember spring break up is around the corner so it slows down over here...
DM me :)

Sorry, I dont get it - are you saying that work slows down during the summer (ie when its not too cold to work)?

Am I reading that right?

Where are you getting these figures from?

Are these supposed to be the going rate as 99% of jobs I see are not are nowhere near that Journeyman rate

Glad to see you've done your research. ;)

For drilling it does. The wells get drilled in remote bits of the boreal forest, where, rather inconveniently, there aren't any roads. So the only way you can get there without sinking into the muskeg bogs is to go in the winter when the ground's frozen. The season stops as soon as the frost begins to break up and they have to get their equipment out of there before they lose it.

The vast majority of onshore drilling in Canada is strictly seasonal.

That makes sense

I`m meeting my potential new employer this weekend and have a list of questions to ask - one of them will go along the lines of:

So can I expect to work all year round or are there any factors that may prevent this?

I really am the sceptical type......

Depends what your job is in? if its construction expect to work all year round 7 days a week 24 hours of the day they are crying out for lads with industrial experience. i am wiring the refinery in Ireland for shell atm its the corrib gas line and was chating some people and they said with industrial experience you will have no problem getting work so its good to no:thumbup::thumbsup:

Hi,

Has any one completed one of the courses advertised to work in the oil sands, they say that nearly all the people get employed by the end but is this true.

I was thinking about this as its only $3000 but is it a good investment? Jing any ideas???

Oh and I'm 47 but I have worked in heavy construction all over the world so I'm used too long assignments!!

Now I feel old
