OIL Fields
Hi all,
Just a quick question about the oil fields and if anybody on the forum managed to find work with a company running the fields?
I'm slowly working my way through the Wiki and looking at what route to take for entry but finding out that “the computer says no".
So due to that fact I’m hoping to try and secure a job first.
The oil field will be a new career too since im currently a serving member of the Armed forces.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to BE.
You wouldn't get a LMIA/TWP if it's a new career, as you'd have to be more qualified/experienced than any Canadians that apply, and tbh no employer is going to pay $1000 and wait months for you to start work when you don't have experience.
Or do you mean starting in the UK and then trying to move in a few years time when you've got the skills and experience required? There's lots of threads on here about working in the oil fields, so do have a hunt. If you're a single guy then it can be great I believe, but relevant threads will give you more info.
Best of luck.

Have you considered the police here seeing as your ex military ? I don't think you can apply for the RCMP till your a citizen but say OPP (Ontario Police) or Winnipeg Police or Calgary/Edmonton i think you could apply to or i've heard you can ? Someone on here might know for sure.

Calgary and Edmonton were hiring TFW's until a few years ago, then with the recession they stopped and haven't done it since.

As to truck driving, do you have Class 1 experience? You'd need at least a couple of years of it to be considered for a LMIA.
What do you do in the army, is that something that you could use to get a visa maybe?

Re: OIL Fields
i'm a recruiter for a trucking outfit and a MINIMUM of two years verifiable is required by most companies. Right now due to the LMIA rule changes most trucking outfits have at least suspended their recruiting of TFWs.
I hear lots of guys saying this company or that company can get you an LMIA (LMO) but i have yet to get proof of those companies actually doing so rather than just hear say.
Had a resume arrive by mail from the Punjab this monday but i won't be offering them anything at the moment.
