Series 1 and 2 (DVD), now on sale at Wal-Mart. I paid $23 for series 1 in Calgary, and it was worth every penny in laughs. I have never seen it before, but after hearing about it non-stop from friends back in England, I had to get it. I haven't laughed so hard in ages.

You could have just downloaded it ( yes you heard that right, since a judge said p2p is not illegal ), that is what i did, and you will be surprised at what yo can get.

It has a big following back home, and that silly dance they do, has been done at many an office party. So i'll take it you will be buying the other series then.

On a different office ( the white house ), what do people actually think of those pictures coming out of Iraq, regarding the prisoners? Its like slavery all over again, its amazing that rumsfeld ( who probably had relatives that went through the holocust, should know better ), will come out trying to cover up the blatant pictures. Now if that was the UK, Geoff Hoon will have gone the same day the pictures surfaced.

shucks

.........with this how the hell are we gonna label em blinking Islamic freedom fighters "Terrorisits" anymore...
...now that the cats out of the bag and they have proven who the actual terrorists are ....our brave US army!!!

How the hell can we justify robbing their oil anymore..!! under thepretext of spreading "Democracy" man this sux !! We need to think of another plan ASAP to keep that oil flowing....

...any body got any ideas...???

Alexandra May 7th 2004 6:04 pm

One word: awful. By the way, mickj, there were similar pictures of Brits abusing prisoners which turn out to be a hoax (and not very well put together). All that talks of bringing democracy and all that. Sickening. No excuse at all. And to think about it, they are trying to stop a new Michael Moore movie from being screened. Freedom of speech, my foot.

BBC comedy at Wal-Mart to torturing prisoners...sorry I brought it up (I did get series 2 today though).

As someone who has worked in the corporate environment, The Office is .... priceless. Best thing to come from BBC2 since This Life.

Cheers, Iain

I absolutely agree with that. It's a shame that there are no more episodes to come but I think it finished at the right time, while it was still top quality.

I understand that a US version is being made with US actors. Somehow I can't imagine it being as good. Who could possibly be as perfect in the role of David Brent and Gareth as the originals?!:)

mickj May 8th 2004 9:13 am

I don't think a US version can be made, don't forget it was shown on US TV, and he won an award for it, well...they all did ! The guy did the right thing, quit whilst you are ahead, he made enough money out of it, got a bigger house, still can't drive, but it doesn't bother him, because you can pay someone else to do it.

Bring back Simon Templer, upstairs downstairs, are you being served, rising damp, carry on episodes with all the hot totties.

The xmas episode with Brent's music video is classic cringeworthy Office! Fantastic stuff! :D :D

So is there a special Christmas episode not on series 1 or series 2!?! I shall have to find a way of getting hold of it!

Absolutely right. To have the two extra Xmas episodes were a treat and they wrapped up the conclusion quite nicely.

There certainly are, two episodes shown over two days at Xmas and you need to see them to see the full conclusion.

Yeah, but it's not even out on DVD here in the UK yet so it's probably a case of sitting back and waiting for it....... it's hilarious!
:D
Another good comedy to watch out for there is "Little Britain" which is played on BBC 3 & 2 here. Some sketches are a little off the wall but very very funny ;)

That is fab news. We had series one and two back in the Uk but had to give them to family due to the differences in the TV system!!!

Hurray, we will be going to wal mart to show off the quality of our English comedy. Hope our canadian family enjoys it and gets the humour!!!

Does anyone know if you can get Pheonix nights in Canada or somewhere on the net that has the same settings for canada.

Thanks

Gaynor

Am sure you can order it from the net, and even if it is not the same settings ( region 1 ) as canada, DVD players can be made to play any region you want. Here is mine that plays anything from anywhere, i don't even need to burn my songs, 1000 and odd mp3 songs on a cd, and all i have to do is sit back and relax

Hi Mick,

So that DVD player will play DVD's from the UK then? Did it need any modification or did it come like that?
If it's sold as a 'play all' could you please give me some info on model #, price and where purchased? Any picture or sound issues?

Thanks!

mickj May 13th 2004 11:42 pm

Hello there,

The dvd player will play any dvd from anywhere in the world, i should know because most of my dvds are from the UK, and from greece ( my wife is half greek ).

Here is the player info: TOSHIBA SD 240E ( It has a digital decoder for surrounder sound with my home theatre system ), note that if you buy a player without a digital decoder, you won't be able to use it for surround sound with a home theatre system.

The dvd player has a switch at the back that lets you push it up to NTSC when you in the usa/canada, you don't even need a transformer, just an adaptor for the plug to fit in.

I paid £100 for it, and got it from tottenham court road in london, am sure the price has gone down now. The sound is excellent, picture perfect, good screen interface, it even plays JPEG pictures saved on a disc

You can always tune into SHOWCASE and TV ontario, if you are in this neck of the woods, the weekend and mid week is full of british stuff.

I was watching re-runs of keeping up appearances last night, and two point four kids.

jonthelad May 14th 2004 4:20 pm

Thanks for the info Mick - greatly appreciated!
