Can anyone tell me if wills made in Canada are valid in the UK and vice versa?

I had an Albertan lawyer glance over my UK will as it listed my property there, he said he couldn't forsee any problem with it. However, that was when I was resident in the UK. From having this discussion here before it seems that you probably have to be resident in a place for your will to be valid, people mentioned needing to change their wills when moving from province to province. So my UK one should be in the bin I think, and I should be having a Manitoban one drawn up. Another thing on the to-do list!

Now resident in Canada I had a updated Will drawn up here. As soon as this was concluded it superceded my UK Will which was drawn up a few years ago relative to my assets etc in the UK. Only exception to this I was told was that IF I still had property e.g Land or a house in the uk, my UK Will would still stand relative to that property. As I disposed of my propery on moving to Canada, my UK Will became negated on the drawing up of my new will here in Canada.
Hope that hepls a little, but in such matters it is always prudent to check with a Solicitor to be sure

Cheers

Mac

Thanks both of you. Will get a Canadian lawyer to look into it once I'm a resident. Add it to the list of things to do when I get there..:-)
