Nursing Specialities in Canada
#1
Hi
This is a question mainly to those who have moved to Canada as a nurse. I'm wondering if particular specialities are more beneficial if a nurse is hoping to get a job in Canada or whether it is fairly equal across the board? Are there barely any jobs in one area but many in another for example?
Thanks

Same as UK really, always short of nurses in Medicine (In Ontario not sure about other areas). Places like ICU and short stay ICU (known as ECU here) are short experienced nurses but occasionally employ new grads. Basically the more specialized nursing experience you have the better. Cardiac care and surgical seem to always be looking, However the last 2 years have been tough with some hospitals starting employment freezes and even some nurses getting laid off. In the time I have been here the Medicine floors have always been short staffed and seem to be hiring constantly. Good luck with your search if I can be of any further assistance feel free to ask for help.
