Nursing Question. LPN's ?
#1
Hi, I have a question for the Brit nurses now working in CA. My wife has just finished her NVQ3 in care. She's a Healthcare assistant on a cancer ward.
Are the HCA's equivalent to the Licensed Prac Nurses in the Canadian system. If not where do you think the HCA fits in if at all.
Keeping our fingers crossed Rachel can use all the hardwork she put into the NVQ.
Originally we thought we would head for Ontario, but Nova Scotia is looking more attractive.
Thanks

I am an RN from BC but my ward is not staffed with LPNs.
However, you could write to the Nova Scotia lpns Ass.:website
www.clpnns.ca and in Ontario the lpns are called reg.practical nurses.
www.rpnao.org . I was trained in UK under the old system,I am familiar with State Enrolled Nurse but not sure whether HCA is equivalent
to SEN.Anway Nova Scotia and Ontario will answer your questions.
Good luck to Rachel on her job hunting.

Hi,
Do check www.allnurses.com there is a Canadian Nurses thread
where LPNs are being discussed. LPNs are in demand and some hospitals
are training the LPNs to give medications, injections and start IVs.
It would be an opportunity to switch to being an RN.
