Re: Nursing Ontario
Frustrating doesn't even come close does it?
I wasn't able to get a job as a carer; the agencies I applied to wouldn't take me as I didn't have the PSW certificate. I did voluntary work; it got me out of the house, I met some lovely people and, eventually, some supply work and the all important Canadian experience. Good luck to you with the job search. |
Re: Nursing Ontario
Caleo - I think the one useful thing the CNO have done for me was advising me to go for RPN - otherwise Id be in the position you're in now
Bats - no one has ever mentioned a medical - I only read about that in this thread - do you reckon if I ring the CNO they would tell me that? Deny - yes, I'm amazed I can't even work as a carer! I think I'll have to do some voluntary work but I need an income as my husband is paying very expensive fees for a course here. What annoys me most though is that I WAS a landed immigrant here - came to Canada in the 60s with my parents and graduated from high school here - that counts for nothing though! |

Re: Nursing Ontario
My work permit says nothing at all about working in health care - it only mentions working in the sex I dusty as the only exclusion. I got my work permit as my husband has a student visa.
I know the CNO don't care about my past, it's just annoying, that's all! |

I know the CNO don't care about my past, it's just annoying, that's all! You may have to get a medical exam because of the type of job you want to do in Canada. Examples of such jobs are: Jobs that bring you into close contact with people, such as: workers in the health sciences field Undergo your medical exam before you submit your application This is called an up front medical exam. You can contact a panel physician directly to get your medical exam if you apply under one of the following categories: Workers Students Visitors (including Parent and Grandparent Super Visa) Once your medical exam has been completed, the doctor will give you a document confirming that you underwent a medical exam. You must include a copy of that document with your application. If the doctor works with the eMedical electronic system they will give you an up-front medical notification printout. If the doctor works with a paper system they will give you a copy of the IMM 1017B Upfront Medical Report form. You must attach that form to your application before you submit it the visa office. If you apply online, you must upload that form before you can submit your application. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...exams-temp.asp |
Re: Nursing Ontario
Gizmo - regarding working as a carer- you only need a PSW certificate in long term care. I wrote to Deb Matthews and she confirmed this. I can email a copy of her reply if you want. Some agencies here insist on the certificate still, but even though they may ask for one in the job spec, you don't need one. I worked for 2 different agencies - pay was poor, but it was a start - it could keep you going while you are waiting to sort out your licence.
Good luck with your calls today - i hope you get somewhere! |

You can arrange to have one yourself by making an appointment with a Panel Physician and telling them that you need an 'up front' medical examination. You will need to apply for a change of conditions to your work permit once you have undergone the examination.

Re: Nursing Ontario
Siouxie - when I applied all that information you have given was there, saying you may need a medical, and I told them I wanted to work in health care mp, but they didn't ask me to have the medical and just issued my work permit with no exclusions.
Caleo - yes please to the email - I'll message you my email address. Who is Deb Matthews? Should I know? |

Was the permit issued by a rogue CBSO working their notice ? Conditions to be imposed for open/occupation restricted work permits If a medical exam was not completed, one of the following conditions must be used. The specific occupation restriction will depend on whether or not the client has resided in a designated or non- designated country. (Please refer to website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...edical/dcl.asp.) i) For persons from non-designated countries, the following remark should appear on the work permit: “Not authorized to work in: 1) child care, 2) primary or secondary school teaching, 3) health services field occupations.†ii) For persons from designated countries, the following remark should appear on the work permit: “Not authorized to work in: 1) child care, 2) primary or secondary school teaching 3) health services field, 4) agricultural occupations.†Its as simple as ticking a box on page 4 of the work permit screen in FOSS when issuing the work permit. As for the working in the sex trade etc that automatically appears on an OPEN work permit courtesy of HRSDC and CIC. Its quite funny at times watching their expression as they read that LOL. |
Re: Nursing Ontario
Siouxie - no, no PR application
I've dug out my last letter from the CNO dated May 2013 and it says I've met the immigration requirements with my work permit, so clearly something has gone wrong since then. I'm waiting from a call back from the CNO - according to the woman I spoke to this morning my work permit hasn't been reviewed yet, but according to the letter from May it has. |
Re: Nursing Ontario
Well, she phoned me back and said someone is reviewing my work permit and once they've done that they'll send out my registration application.
She said she would ring and let me know when it was being sent, but it should be days rather than weeks, so that's something! |
Re: Nursing Ontario
That is great news - hopefully it will be sorted out quicky for you!. I have emailed the letter to you. Deb matthews is the misiter for health and long term care in ontario.
