Post nursing canada

Hello,

I'm hoping to start my nursing course in September. We are looking into moving to Canada on my husbands qualifications. This could take some time so what I was wondering is if I start nursing training over here would I be able to complete it in Canada?

Also are there any UK qualifications that are equivelant to nursing access courses in Canada?

I don't want to start a course in the UK and end up wasting it having to start again in Canada.

Advice please.

Advice?
Will hubby earn enough you support you while you train?
Have you considered the option of Coming on a student visa (not cheap I agree)? Hubby can then get an Open work permit.

Its something you could consider (at least).

PM Yoong - she is a nurse. I think that (in BC anyway) you will basically have to start all over again if you are not already qualified to degree level. I am sure there will be courses that transfer as equivalent, but the bottom line is you need to get a nursing degree and they will not make it easy for you to bring in overseas courses.

Hi, I'm a U.K psychiatric nurse working in BC.
I think it is very unlikely you will be able to start your training in U.K and finish it in Canada. However, with the current waiting time for immigtaion you may have time to complete your training in U.k, then come over to Canada and take the Canadian exam. Whatever you do you will have to take the Canadian exam to practice in BC.
Two contacts that might be helpful- College of registered nurses in BC (CRNBC), and John Collins fom Stenberg College, Vancouver ( both organisations are on the web), might be worth contacting.
Last option is to come over and train here- ideal way to understand the Canadian nursing landscape which is very different to U.K.
You are welcome to pm me if you want to discuss further.

Personally I would recommend a canadian qualification if you are definately making canada your long term home. If you have to wait till hubby approval comes thru, work your current job and save like mad, education in canada will not be cheap. If you do decide to train in the UK take note Ontario will require a degree not the nursing diploma.

Good Luck

Alberta also requires degree (or eqivalent) and a number of hours / months / years experience, or you can be forced to undergo futher assessments and training.

Depends on which province you are going to practise.
Get the theory and clinical hours from your nursing
school and submit them to the nurses association
ie CRNBC and see what they say about switching halfway during
your training. If you managed to save 6 months worth of
training, then it is money saved. No harm trying.Try all the provinces
and that will help you to decide where to do your training(UK or here).
Good luck,
Yoong
