hi there,
My husband and I are desperate to get out of the UK and move to Canada, hopefully Nova Scotia as not too far away for relatives to visit. My husband is a head Greenkeeper with 24 years experience and I'm a mental health staff nurse with 11 years experience. I'm aware that I cannot jump into a similar job there however can anyone tell me what I could work as, I'm not eager to continue working in this field and would happily work in a less stressful area but also need an adequate salary to survive. What do Greenkeepers do in the winter?? Is this usually a seasonal job and are Greenkeeper jobs in abundance? Sorry to go on and on but I'v so many questions and double the worries to go with them. All responses appreciated!

Do you have general training in nursing or RMN? NS requires you to have general training they do not accept RMN therefore your transcripts needs hours in Paeds, Obstetrics, Mental Health and General Adult. Greenkeeper well to be honest I haven't seen many jobs advertised in that area

Shovel snow, I expect! Seriously, all the landscapers around here in Calgary (I suppose that could be called greenkeeping) switch to moving snow from private property during the winter months.

I thought a greenkeeper was someone who looked after the green stuff at golf courses and suchlike. No idea what happens to golf course staff in the winter though. Plan? order grass seed, sand and pesticide?

<OK possibly not the real artists on major courses, they likely go to Florida>.

Thanks for everyone's responses.
I'm a RMN nurse, trained in psychiatry. No general training except when I was a student back in 1996. My husband seen a job advertised in Digby County for a Greenkeeper, emailed an interest however for myself I not sure what I would do for a job. Emigration Agencies say I would have no problem getting a job however I'm not so sure.

Hi,
They have definitely been advertising heavily for a golf course worker for the well respected Digby Pines course.
No idea about working in your profession but you could try these contacts for a start (Yarmouth is about an hour south west of Digby):

You could also try the valley area immediately to the north of Digby:

Good luck!
