Default NS recce plans

is hiring an RV a good idea for a recce trip? We are hoping to get 2 weeks over there and would really like to check out some possible real estate options whilst we are there.

so RV? or car and B+B's? i think the price works out about the same.

We were in Nova Scotia for 2 weeks in May and we stayed in a B&B. It worked out great for us because, like you we were out meeting potential employers, looking at houses, schools etc and it was nice to have our own room with ensuite and someone greeting you in the morning with breakfast so we could just shower, get dressed, eat and leave. It was also much more convenient for us with having a little one - there was a lot more space and he was able to wind down properly before bed. I guess it just boils down to taste. Best of luck with your recce and have fun!

Personally I would go car and B+B as it is just easier to drive around a strange place in a car rather than a bus.
You would have no worries about finding a place to stop for the night in the places where you want to stop, rather than trying to find a convenient RV park that could be mi9les away.
It also depends on what time of year you plan on coming over as things start to close up around September after the kids go back to school.

On cost alone I'd agree. A decent sized RV would probably do not much more than 10 mpg if you are lucky. Gas is about $4.75 a gallon at the moment ( $1.06 a liter). Then there's the cost of the nightly park fees and the RV rental.
I would decide where you want to explore and then find a central point, or points if you wish to reccie different areas, and then go for a B & B or a motel. Enjoy the trip however you do it.

Done two recces in a RV both were longer than two weeks but we found no problem finding places to stay (except New Brunswick day when we had to try three sites before we found a space). The car parks are so much bigger over there that a 25' will fit perfectly into a single car space. We got 13 mpg from the 25' 5.4l V8. Nice not having to pack/unpack every day. We generally stayed only 1 night per place so not having the whole packing thing was great. If you want freedom, not having to plan where you stop/stay the RV was easy, parks had spaces, plenty of parks about. Prices ranged from private $10 per night to big chains running up to $55 per night. If all else fails a certain shopping chain will let you stay in their car parks over night (and most of these are in amongst the major food places where you can get breakfast on tap!!!)
If you need space for the kids to wind down at the end of the day there is nothing better than stopping on the beach/park/river/lake and letting them run wild for a bit.

Ahhh...the seasonal thing...I hadn't built that into my equations!
We hope to be able to hit the NS roads in October some time all being well, we are going to combine our landing with a recce trip, then move over next Spring.

We came by car and loved the freedom. There are plenty of places to stay, even if you book along the way.

We moved over almost 3 years ago now - I'd be happy to answer any questions, including any regarding real estate. Feel free to email me.

Good luck on your trip!!

If you want to meet the locals, then b&b is much better than RV! ( gas milage will be better too)

If you are looking at Oct, I would probably go with B and B option, are you on FB? there is a BE's of Nova scotia page, we have lots of meet ups etc if you are interested in meeting up with some locals here
