Do you have any area in mind (Fall River, Dartmouth, Eastern Passage etc)?
It can take over 30 mins to drive into Halifax from Bedford during rush hour:eek:

Hi We have just come back from a reccie in Nova Scotia. Loved Fall River, and met up with a great realtor whom we had met at the Emigrate Show last year. They are called Jerry and Annette Murphy

email address [email protected].
www.jerryandannettemurphy.ca

They specialise in the Fall River, Beford area. If you look at Fall River on mls, the majority of all houses will have this realtor assigned to them. We met up with Jerry, he was fantastic and showed us around lots of different style houses, in both areas according to the specification we asked for. This realtor also lives in Fall River.

I would recommend Jerry & Annette also, they found us a fantastic building lot in Fall River, we purchased without even seeing it, and were so pleased when went over last year, it is perfect, in a close, near all levels of schools and amenities, he knew exactly what we wanted!

I met Annette last year. She was very nice but I felt quite restricted that she was only willing to show houses in the Fall River area. Fine if you have chosen there as the place you want to live but if you have not decided yet and want to look around she will not do that with you.

We were recommended to use Judy Anderson.

We met her last year and she seemed great.

I agree, Jerry and Annette are a lovely couple but we also felt that we were being steered towards Fall River. I was talking to another realtor a few days ago and she said that they have built their business up through that area so it's no wonder that they are slightly bias. Once you are in the market to buy they will show other areas but if you are just on a reccie and want to get a feel of what you can buy then they are likely to just show you houses on their books.

Saying that though, I think that's the only negative thing about them and they are really good realtors, just make sure that you explore all areas before you come back and buy.

Judy took us all around the Halifax area, she spent two days with us.

We are meeting her in July for another look around Hammonds Plains

One of the finest communities in the Halifax area is Fall River, WHICH IS 30 MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN HALIFAX. (As you'll see in many of the comments). I suggest you go to yahoo.ca and search under fall river nova scotia real estate then interview 3 of the active estate agents in the area to ensure you find a positive match and will give you the time you need.

If you look in the Fall River / Waverley / Wellington areas then Jerry & Annette Murphy are the ones to contact. They know this area intimately and specialise in it. They lived there, their kids went to school there etc. They tend not to go outside the area as they are less familiar with it.
Incidentally 30 minutes from Halifax takes in a HUGE area!!

They have been mentioned already. I have heard good and bad feedback from people who used them.

There is no substitute for doing your own research and interviewing a selection of realtors as was suggested above as your experience with your realtor will be hugely dependent on whether you understand each other he or she can easily relate to your needs and values.

IMO there are (with very few exceptions) no really bad realtors. It is just about getting a good match between realtor and client.

When you buy a car do you only go to one dealership? When you make a large purchase for your business or governmental agency do you only ask for 1 bid? One of my cardinal rules is to always interview 3 parties with respect to major purchases. This ensures objectivity and a quality competitive purchase.
