Also if I fail it seems odd that I will still be able to, ask the examiner to get out and then drive away (on my uk licence). This whole process is going to seem surreal, driving up to the test centre to take a test, and if I fail driving away again. I was told that if you fail your road test you can drive home, you just have to keep applying for temporary licenses. |

I checked the handbook and it says there are 2 sets of questions, one of which is multiple choice. I will be able to tell you later today as I am off to sit my test this afternoon.
I have also spoken to a driving instructor about having 2 lessons prior to driving test and he said it was okay with him. Hoping to sit my driving test next week. We gave my wife's uncle's address and drove straight over to NS (landed Ottawa) with the temporary paper license. He posted our photo license about three weeks later. We took those and exchanged them for the NS ones.
When we registered our vehicles though with paper Ontario licenses they tried to get us to register for tests (as they mistook them for learner licenses) - we told them we knew we had 90 days to do the transfer. Just got back from sitting our written tests and we both passed :D . First was the eye test - looked into a machine and read letters, colour blindness test, etc. The second part was 2 sheets - one full of road signs and the other had 20 descriptions. You just had to match up the sign with the description. I got 19 out of 20 - could've kicked myself on schoolboy error. The last set was 20 multiple choice. I got 17 out of 20 so passed. OH also passed.
Next step is to sit our driving test. I asked the lady as to what would happen if we failed she said that you are given a chance to correct your wrong action and if you are a really bad driver then you would have to sit it again. She said they have never failed a driver with a UK license :D . Here's hoping that trend continues :D |

What about the 3 way stops - 4 junctions but only 3 have to stop! Or are those just peculiar to Halifax?
Written test is on paper, multiple choice. You are allowed 5 wrong answers. Driving test is not too bad, but depends on where you go. My husband did his in Dartmouth and it was much longer than the 10 minute one I had in Halifax. |

3 way stops and 4 way stops are kinda similar to roundabouts in the UK. You giveway to who ever got there first. You take your turn as to put it.
Yes I'll be landing in Toronto for 3 days to take care of my SIN, Exchanging my US Licence for an ON one, Bank Account and Credit cards. Then I'll head back to the US then a month later when everyting is set I'll make the final push. The reason I chose to get my Licence exchanged in ON is becuase NS has a reciprical deal with the US state I live in but you wont get the full class 5 licence and I don't have time for that Codswallop as I need a Class 5 for my job. Straight swap from US to ON then ON to NS gets me the full class 5. |

Can I ask you when did you apply for your PR Card, did you just wait till you got to NS or do you have to apply as soon as you land at first point of entry? I realise about the 180 day rule! Thanks. |

From the replies listed here it doesn't sound as though the driving test is too bad,but you do need to knw the road signs etc. Is there such thing as the equivalent of a Highway Code book that I could buy.
