Re: Now you live in Canada ...
What does FF mean?
I googled it and got Final Fantasy. Is that correct? |
Re: Now you live in Canada ...
TV is TV when googled, it doesn't have a meaning as such.

Re: Now you live in Canada ...
I like watching films on TV cos I've got a big TV and they look great. But what's with AMCHD - you can get 45 mins into a film before the ads start, but then at the end they are every 2 minutes. I know by that point they've got you watching - but the constant necessity to press the +30s button doesn't half kill the immersion:frown:

I went looking for films on TV for an example. It seems that there hardly are any anymore, it all seems to be Judge Judy and Paid Programming now. However, I did find that CityTV offers "Wall of Secrets" between 9 and 11 on Saturday evening: http://tv.citytv.com/schedule/toronto/week/ that's two hours or 120 minutes IMDB has the original running time of the film as 105 minutes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386108/ Do you think there's only 15 minutes of adverts, trailers and breaks for the Canadian and US station identifications in two hours? If not (and I say there will be about 45 minutes worth) unless there was a **** of a lot of swearing in the original version, how does it fit? |

Movies are particularly prone to being demolished of all pace and emotive composition. The Internet, to be sure, will go this way in the future, but for now, it's all I use. |

I got rid of Television years ago because of commercial interruptus.

Re: Now you live in Canada ...
I always love talking to people who don't watch TV because (a) they always seem out of touch and (b) you suddenly realize how brainwashed you are.
Some guy I know was saying, if you don't think TV is addictive, try getting your kids to watch it and then turn it off halfway through the show. But really, nowadays ads are a minor annoyance with the advent of DVR. It's not like with VHS. You just record everything and skip through them. I've seen a couple of ads designed for DVR I think, because the picture doesn't change during the ad so even if you FF through it you still see what they're advertising. A lot of the stuff on in Canada has American ads anyway, so what's the point in watching them? (Also a good example of how ads convince you to buy things, because I have a feeling of being left out because I can't buy anything advertised). |
