Since the UK viewer has access to all the shows you mention you have in Canada, i don't really see your point.
Also, since you also poo poo the UK made shows, can you name as many Canadian made ones without using Google or any other URL to quickly search for an answer? Getting a bit sidetracked on drama shows really, I don't like soccer, rugby, Formula 1, crap soaps, etc. of which there are copious amounts on British TV. I think you also have a bit of advantage with the news here because you can get BBC World plus the Canadian and American channels so you have a diversity of opinion you don't get in the UK as the BBC, CBC, CNN etc. have different viewpoints. The biggest laugh is BBC Canada, which appears to have devolved into only having all the crappy property shows from British TV on it, I always think that proves my point because everything else is either (a) so crap no-one will watch it so they don't air it or (b) has been bought up by another channel. So through that filter you end up with the remaining mediocre rubbish. I stopped subscribing to it, it was so awful. |

You're obviously not up with the hip crowd, e.g. Erica Durance, Laura Vanderoot, Missy Peregrym, Ryan Reynolds, etc. who seem to be the sort of people who get gossiped about.

I think you missed my point - the UK shows I attempted to watch are crap, so I didn't watch them, so I certainly can't name that many. I'm not saying Canadian shows are better, I said TV is better. You do get British TV shows on here but they tend to filter out the pap because only the really good stuff gets on to TV here. Although off-hand I can't think of any British TV show I watch here. Erm... Law & Order: UK occasionally. The Inbetweeners is quite good. I prefer british TV (by which I mean the BBC - ITV is as shit as american TV) because there are 3 or 4 programs a week I might watch, usually comedy or documentaries. With the exception of ferrets, I struggle to find anything at all on Canadian TV. Maybe it's because I don't watch any of those 35 minute "1 hour" drama things - CSI tinpottown or wot not. I guess if you like that kind of show - then north american TV is ok. I do watch the local news - but it is rubbish. For international news it's the BBC and the web as north american channels don't really cover stuff that doesn't affect them. |

Do television stations in Alberta show programs at consistently the same time each week and, in the case, of a drama with a plot that develops over multiple episodes, do they show the episodes in the order the writers intended? Those aren't things one can count on in Ontario. Not being able to watch a program in the logical order kills it for me, I'd sooner order the program on video. |

not wishing to suggest any of this is a good or a bad thing...
... but i am surprised that tv show quality and which country's is 'better' receives such an empassioned and sustained debate! outside of the NHL, an occasional movie and the Colbert / Stewart shows (for my 'current affairs coverage') i dont sit in front of the goggle box at all really; there's not enough time. i am unsure whether i should be grateful for this blissful ignorance caused by Vancouver having too many better things to do, or should i be concerned that i am missing out? judging by the number of complaints from both sides, i suspect the former:D |

At the back end of last year, 30 Rock was shown on TV in the UK 1 week behind the original showing in North America at a very reasonable time for the demographic so either your friend has crappy access or is talking poop. I'm also guessing you don't have access to the TV schedule of the likes of SKY or Virgin Media in the UK to do an actual comparison other than what you believe to be actual :) I still don't understand the whole issue about comparing TV anyway. It's as if people live for TV shows these days in that they have a huge impact on their lives. Who gives a shit whether one is better than the other. *Grumble* |

But then if you asked me to name one actor from Hollyoaks I wouldn't have a clue. Canadians don't have the chav element so it doesn't show up in their celebrities either, so I guess I don't mind hearing about Canadians. Instead of hearing about Jordan's latest bustup in OK! you get exposés of Jason Priestly's vineyard in the Okanagen. I have to admit I don't actually watch ET: Canada. Maybe I should. And so should you! |

It's better here than it is in the US as well, because you still get about 80% of American TV but you get CBC and BBC World too, so you are actually informed what's going on in the world, rather than just when Americans shoot/blow up somebody else in it. |
