Compost seems to work perfectly. Well, they love my Father-in Laws anyway.

I think your FIL's place is in the bear version of lonely planet or something.

I'm gonna have to leave to increase the bear incentives on offer to attract them. Maybe I will try doughnuts.

I often wonder when I read the threads on here why some of the people posting bothered to move here, it's a different country, if the differences didn't appeal to you then why did you move here?

All the comments about the TV for example, personally I find the TV here to be vastly superior to the UK because I prefer the shows obviously.

I think British people (and Americans for that matter) who say Canada is boring suffer from an urbanite mindset. One of the reasons I moved to Canada is because I grew up in a rural area that slowly changed into a suburban and then urban area and I'm afraid I don't like places that are covered in shops and yobs.

The things that people like to do for recreation in Alberta for example are things like camping, fishing and hunting. If you don't like to do these things then why did you move here?

As for the people, nothing makes me happier than not having to talk to people about crappy celebrities and their tedious lives (well, except for Canadian celebrities who generally speaking don't have fake tits and aren't coloured orange) and boring soccer/rugby teams and their tedious sports. (Okay some people get a bit carried away with hockey, but at least it's not as boring). I do think people are a bit more stand-off-ish in Alberta than in the UK, when I was in Arizona a few months ago I bumped into someone from Vegreville and I noticed straight away that they were more insular than the typical American. A result of low population density I think.

I think life in Alberta is a bit more bare knuckle than it is in the UK, which is a shock to the system to a lot of British people. Or maybe it's just that British people like to complain about everything endlessly for no apparent reason, and Canadians don't, which is another reason why I left the UK.

I only find Canada boring when I sit there for 10 minutes and read through threads like this!

I think one of the wonderful things about Canadian culture is its dynamism, openness and broad perspective. How anyone can find living here boring is beyond me.

I also hasten to add if you don't like it here bugger off back to the pot smoking lethargy, closed-mindeness and parochialism of the UK.

It is a bit crazy the amount he gets. Although i think his acreage is on a bear public footpath or something.

I'm back out there on Tuesday and Thursday this week so will call you if any appear

I find this

"I find the TV here to be vastly superior to the UK because I prefer the shows obviously"

to be quite startling. Which show do you prefer?

This is also perplexing

"Canadian celebrities who generally speaking don't have fake tits and aren't coloured orange"

William Shatner seems quite orange to me. I accept that his tits are real but surely Pamela Anderson has had some help in that regard.

Mmm, some of the American drama shows and sitcoms I guess. Perhaps British TV has vastly improved since I lived there because it was back when the BBC only had a couple of channels and BBC24 but I was always hard-pressed to find something to watch. I think the only TV shows I ever used to watch were Top Gear and Stargate SG-1.

What's on tonight... hmm... House is okay although it's getting a bit tiresome now. Chuck can be moderately amusing sometimes (at least it was last week). The Event is usually okay although the episode last week was a stinker. Hawaii Five-O blows chunks but it has sexy women in bikinis usually so I can sit through that.

I like Fringe which is basically the X-Files with a better cast, one of them is Canadian and it's filmed in Vancouver so does that qualify as Canadian?

Raising Hope is pretty funny. I like Community as well, that has its moments. I used to like 30 Rock but its gone a bit flat. The Big Bang Theory is quite funny as well although its become a bit repetitive.

Ice Pilots NWT and the American version of Top Gear are watchable.

How can you not watch Sun News??? That is so bad I have to watch it to laugh at it.

William Shatner seems quite orange to me. I accept that his tits are real but surely Pamela Anderson has had some help in that regard.
But people don't talk about them, it's more hockey players and Canadian rock bands and stuff like that imx. Occasionally Will and Kate.

For some one who praises the merits of the great outdoors in Calgary you spend an awful lot of time watching TV.

Canada in all honesty does not have that many celebrities who are celibrities outside of Canada. At the moment I would say Justin Bieber probably the biggest and then you are down to old school like Shania Twain etc........

I suppose I haven't looked at television in Canada for a while, the only one of those programs I've seen is Top Gear.

The Royal Wedding was a huge event here, the office was deserted, only the World Cup generated a similar level of interest. I can't think of any Canadian, apart from Stephen Harper, I've ever heard mentioned but then the only celebrities frequently spoken about here are football players. I don't think there are any Canadian football players of note.

Perhaps I could learn about famous Canadians and experience Canadian TV by tuning in the Sun channel.

I know it's a matter of personal taste. But vastly superior?

My subjective opinion is that in _Steve's list, House was ok for a couple of seasons, but then became shit. Most other US shows are shit. I've not seen any "Canadian" ones - but only because they look shit when they are advertised. I watch the local news, but this is despite it being shit.

Where's the documentaries like "Wonders of the universe", "Everything and nothing"; comedy like "Mitchel and Webb" etc. The US has south park I guess, but what's Canada got? "Corner bloody gas" - what a pile of shit.
