Default Nova Scotia vs. Scotland

No, this is not an immigration question, but a comparison of geography. So often we forget how truly massive Canada is. Each province is the size of a country!

... or multiple countries:

Puts things in perspective!

Edit: I found those two maps on this site: http://mapfrappe.blogspot.ca/2011/02...pe-canada.html. I thought I'd share it because I've seen many questions that suggest a lack of understanding of the vastness of Canada.

Default Re: Nova Scotia vs. Scotland

This occurred to me when I drove from Toronto to Montreal, then to Ottawa and back to Toronto. I thought I had driven for ever!, but on re-tracing my journey on a map I realised I had hardly been anywhere! lol.

relatively speaking

Cool outlining, how did you do that?

I think the Newfoundland one makes the point best.

+1 on that. The island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador, i.e. the "Newfoundland" bit is roughly the same size as England & Wales without Scotland but has less than 1% of the population. That always brings something home to me.

Another way to appreciate how frigging huge the country is, is to fly across it. I'm in Hong Kong this week and flew from St. John's via Toronto & Vancouver. Excluding the stopovers the flying across Canada bit was 8.5hrs!

There's a reason for that.

Fascinating stuff! Remember though there are one hell of a lot of mountains!

Was talking with friends the other day and saying we cannot understand why more land is not set aside for small scale farming like in the UK and Europe and supplying more local food without importing so much. Green houses would also work!
