Hi all, well this is another newbie joining the ranks of wistful brits looking at moving out to the Land of Mooses (not moses - less snow and a lot warmer there, probably no bears either).
The girlfriend and i are off to Halifax NS via Toronto Motreal and Fredricton this aug/sep and we have about 4 days to snoop around Halifax area - i have read in these forums that the IT market is pretty flat there - does anyone know what the Telecomms industry is like there? I also have 13 Years Royal Navy experience (Radar technician) and i figure that since Halifax seems to be the major Naval port i would maximise my chances of getting a job there.
We are already goin Sea Kayaking & whale watching (outside of those 4 days) - what areas would people recommend to snoop around to get an idea of what living in the area is like?
Some of these posts make you go..gulp..but thanks to ukjo for the pics posted in the forums - a picture paints a thousand words and all that.
Anyway it's 1am and i'd better get back on with the overtime i'm doing so i can save for a concrete shoebox in the UK. Have fun all.
Regards
Roj

Hi
Nova Scotia seems to be 'the place'.
We are over near Halifax late AUG/early SEPT and planning to buy a property in Fall River.
What about a meet?
Anyone know much about Fall River? How have house prices gone the last couple of years?
Also does anyone know if you can visit Canada after you have your visa, without landing. If we can buy a property on this visit,i will probably want to come over to check on progress etc after our visas are issued and will not have a definate/current Canadian address or items to follow at that stage.

Hi all
I don`t post here very often, just lurk. Let me introduce myself
I`m Jo, married with 2 kids (4 & 18months) and have applied under the skilled workers, and we`re just playing the waiting game. We think we might go to Calgary, but Nova Scotia really appeals to us both. I don`t know how long you`ve all been there, but just wondered if anyone had any pointers or advice they could offer, i.e work, schools, nice/bad areas, cost of living. Hubby works for BT as an installation/repair engineer, he also does alot of broadband/ adsl/sdsl (not sure what it`s called over there). Wondered what the job market is like over there for someone like him, we had been told a lot of the maritimes are fiber optic cabeling, which he knows nothing about, can anyone shed some light on this? Also what is the work situation like generaly, is unemployment high/low.
Sorry for so many questions, we just need all the help we can get.
Thanks Jo & Gary
