Not sure when you're coming (and if you're planning to go on the ferry to PEI), but the ferry doesn't start operating until May 1 - just something you might want to factor in there...

We are 2hrs from Charlottetown either by Ferry or by the bridge. So we usually go across in the morning on the ferry and return via the bridge. We are located on the North Shore, which is central for traveling all over central Nova Scotia areas http://centralnovascotia.com/northumberland.php
We did a tour in 3 weeks and stayed in these spots 1/3 nights, so we could take a look at each location in more detail. Starting at Lawrencetown, Shearbrooke, Pictou, Tatamagouche, Digby, Liverpool, Lunenburg, Peggys Cove, Halifax.
If I did it again I would pick a central location in the North and also the South and drive to other locations each day. Less time spent packing and unpacking and driving long distances. Doing this you would get to see PEI.
If you order the Doers and Dreamers Guide from here https://novascotia.com/en/home/plana...s/default.aspx
It is a great book for planing your route etc. and full of info.

Are you planning on meeting employers whilst you are there? If you are you should contact them in advance to check availability (they may be on holiday too) as this may influence your route and where you stay. It is lovely in August, just bring the insect repellent spray. A circular route in either direction is good and much more reasonable as you have more than the typical 2 weeks.
Have a wonderful time.
