Nova Scotia or...
We are at the very begining of our information gathering and I have freinds in Toronto and Calgary who both rate their locations, however Nova Scotia seems to have something about it. We plan a recce in the next year but would be interested in any ones views, experiences, comparisons if you wish to share.

And even if you do qualify as a FSW Cat 1 without AEO, then surely your location will be dicated by where the best possibility of work is, particularly given the recession in Canada?
For example, my hubby is very in demand in BC and Alberta and gets headhunters from Canada on the phone every week - but not a single one of them has been about a job in NS so it wouldn't be an option for us even if we wanted to go there!!
If all of them will give you equal opportunities job wise, then I think the only thing you can do is visit for yourself and see what you think. Many people love Toronto (I personally don't like it but that's jmo) and Calgary (never been there so can't comment), but it will depend on what you want.
Good luck deciding.

We are looking at FSW as I am a nurse and Health Visitor (likely return to normal nursing.) My husband is a Global inspections manager in oil and gas so he is not too concerned. We also have my brother in law and two of his children hoping to come along (retiring policeman) but he is dealing with how he executes this.
As my job is on "the list" I suspected there may be some flexibility, and none of us are big city people. Looking forward to getting out and looking.
My only concern is I had surgery on my back as a child and have metalware which has not affected my life thus far but is worrying me.

I have to ask though, if yon't like big cities then why are you considering Calgary and Toronto?! Two of the biggest cities in Canada!
Why is the surgery worrying you? Shouldn't be an issue unless I'm missing something?

Re: Nova Scotia or...
Do you have your nursing degree? Some Provinces require that, Ontario is one, Nova Scotia does not, I am not sure about Alberta but I am sure someone else will clarify.

Dont worry about the back surgery unless is affects you on a daily basis. I had surgery on my lower back in 2001 and flew through the medicals.

Think its because I dont know what the medical is looking for I wasn't sure what criteria it would be based on, thanks for the feedback guys.
No wings, but maybe a built in radiator would be useful here in Whitley Bay
Yes, I have a degree and a couple of other bits. Calgary has a lot of oil work up in the oil flats and when freinds market there location it always seems worth looking at but personally I suspect its not for us.

He is a quality manager but works globally. Not offshore though. Interesting re Newfoundland. Will look at that.
