Hi there,

That's great to win the flights. I can't help you with living in NS because we are thinking of moving there ourselves but we are having a holiday on NS in August. We are basing our holiday about 1-11/2 drive on the south shore near to Lunneburg. We have hired a cottage, which there are plenty of. This way we can sample the local produce and eat out at our convenience.

I know it doesn't help you much, perhaps you can let me know how you get on?

Carolyn

I haven't been to the Annapolis Valley myself, but I know the Halifax/Dartmouth area. My partner is from there and I've spent a long holiday there. NS is absolutely amazing it really is. Most of it is very rural and breathtakingly picturesque. The majority of NS is rolling and covered in pine forests and lakes, however I understand Annapolis is a fruit growing agricultural region.

As far as I know Nurses qualifations are NOT recognised!! Look into it, that's my advice! Also NS has pretty high unemployment for Canada. For work you might be better off in the industrial heartland around Toronto.

Hello Elaine and Gary,

It seems you guys have got a place in mind that you will like to move to, but there might not be a lot of jobs there for the prrofession you mentioned. Ontario is begging for more nurses, and this is evident in the daily news.

Unfortunately, Nursing is regulated here in Ontario, and i doubt NVQ is carried in the same regards as a degree. All foreign trained nurses have to take a provincial exam anyway to become registered.

The link below puts things into perspective:

cheers

Congrats on winning the tickets....Now will you use them to have a holiday and do some fact finding in Nova Scotia? I am living in Nova Scotia and have done for quite awhile...it's great here. The Nova Scotia government would like to increase the amount of immigrants coming to the province, most immigrants go to major cities in Ontario and points west. Bear River and Annpolis Royal are both small towns, very touristy....so it depends on what like and what your job is. Ask questions.

Elaine and Gary, I just realized you may have ment Annpolis Valley instead of Annapolis Royal....the Valley takes in alot of small towns, Kentville Middleton, New Minas, Wolfeville and all are close to each other and also an easy commute to the city.

Lunenburg is a real tourist town and also very historic. It is on the South Shore and also close to the city and other small towns. I guess you could say everything is close in this province!

Default REgrets!

WE've just moved back to the UK from Nova Scotia (Bedford) and are really missing it and the great friends we left behind.

Sure, jobs are hard to come by and the winters are a bit on the chilly side, but, as my boss said to me once (he was from Ontario), Nova Scotia gets under your skin. We didn't think we'd miss it but we sure do!

Also, judging by the threads I've seen, loads of people are looking to move to NS. Great, but if you do, I'd recommend keeping in touch out there. Nice to talk to fellow brits sometimes!

thanks all for you kind words and advice,
Carolyn, we too are hoping to go end of july, beginning of august, you say your renting a cottage, if you don't mind me asking but how much did it work out at?. we have looked at prices of rooms and a double works out at $30 a night. we are not looking at anything fancy, just a base as we will be hiring a car to travel as much as we can. we want to try and see as meny different places as we can.....we will need a holiday when we get back to get over it....
have you started the legal side of it yet?, do you have any children?. what do thay think of all this. i don't think it is real to them. and that we are not really going, but we will prove them wrong.
Elaine x x

Hi Elaine and Gary,

I am a registered nurse, we are hoping to settle in the Annapolis Valley, it is wonderful there.

When are you thinking of going?

We are going out again next month and are staying at Mountain Top Cottages, Parker Mountain Rd. We stayed there in June, they have 17 cabins around a lake, perfect!

Hi Red Rabbit
Well it is amazing to see how many people are interested in NS...I am here and live on the south shore. When are you planning to visit Annapolis Valley? You will have to let me know and prehaps we can have a meet up. Right now I am in Dartmouth, going to the expat BBQ tonight to meet Liftman and a few others. Let me tell you the traffic was absolutely crazy this morning when the Queen Mary arrived....I have never seen so much traffic....oh yes I have, when I was in England this summer!!!!

We are coming next month, can't wait to see the colours. Happy birthday for next week.
Take care,

Hey Red Rabbit, we're off to NS next Sunday for two weeks. If you're there then PM me as the second week we have a holiday home with an indoor swimming pool, we can swop ideas.

With regards your NVQ my hubby has a level 4 and he had is evaluated by WES and it was given a Diploma status of 2 years which is a degree level and as you know, level 4 is degree level over here anyways Not sure about the nursing qualifications for Canada, but I hope that helps a little. The points work out as 20 for hubby under education.
