My family and I are starting out on the long and winding road to Canada, but we are having problems sorting out a notary to authenticate our official documents. Most seem to want a kings ransom for each document, which are numerous for the application. Has anyone got any advice on what exactly is required for this so we can just sort the required documents?

Do you have a copy of the Appendix A checklist?
If not, the only originals you need to supply are the police clearances and the IELTS cert (if applicable).
All other documents apart from the application forms need to be notarised - it cost us about £70-£80 for the whole thing.
Hope this helps.

I think you'd better ask this question in the immigration forum. Lots of specialists there who can answer your questions.

Hi,
We use an immigration consultant and they said to have our copied documents notarised by a public notary. We used a guy from Bristol who came to our house (40 miles), compared the originals and copies, took the copies away, notarised them, brought them back, all for £150. We were quoted locally at £250/hour! We had everything notarised except original documents, like job references which were on company headed notepaper, around 50 pieces of paper. I too saw both checklists, we just went with what our consultant said, I figured £150 now, I will have forgotton about it in a year...
Patrick.
