Default To be or not to be?

We've decided that Nova scotia sounds like the place for us to bring up our 2 kids (presently aged 2 and 3). We've researched our emigration prospects as much as we have time to do and it seems that we should be ok. The only thing that may jepordize the whole thing for us is a drink-driving conviction. I stupidly drove home 1 night while over the limit about 8 years ago. I got pulled by the police at random (ie; no accident or dangerous driving invloved) and was given the minimum ban (12 months) and a small fine. There have been no incidents with the police since.
It would be really interesting to hear of anyone who knows anything relating to this - we'd be totally gutted if that 1 blunder from many years ago would serve to block our dreams! I'm a sparky and my wife cares for adults with learning disablilities, if that helps!
Thanks

You might want to have a look at the above threads...but have a drink first (without driving of course).

It would appear that Canada would not be impossible but you might have a little time to wait (would happen anyway) and a few hoops to jump through.

Good luck

Well you could do a lot worse than Nova Scotia!
But don't just take our word for that, you and the family would have to come over for a reccie trip, wherever you decide to settle, to make sure it's what you all want.

Not too sure how the drink-driving will affect your application, all be it 8 years ago.

As you are a sparky I've no doubt you would get employment, no matter where you went, but it all depends on how the authorities view the situation. Would it dilute the situation any if you came across and got a job, then got the firm to apply on you behalf, I'm not sure.

I think your best bet would be to seek professional guidance.

Sorry I can't be more positive but I wish you all the best on your journey ahead.

Good luck.

Spot the sparky in NS?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks very much for that - it was real helpful. I wonder if I could just try to clarify something?, as so far you're my 1st contact with NS! -

You said that as i'm a sparky you've no doubt that i'd find work no matter where i go in NS - is this really the case? I interpret this then to mean that NS either has a massive shortage of sparkies; or; that there is some reason why sparkies dont want to work there (eg; low pay)?

Its real difficult to get a true perspective on the sparky situation in NS from official stats on web!

If the work situation seems to be promising, then we'll be flying out for a reccie in may/june (a good time to visit?)

Thanks again

All contractors are in short supply in NS due to the drain from the oil fields out west - you willl have no trouble setting up. As for the drink-drive you might wan to consider Newfoundland where that is an advantage - just kidding!

There is always the community identified route in Nova Scotia - we came that way. We love it here.
