Hi,
NOC 7312 is Heavy equipment Technician, do we challenge this exam if hubby is an HGV diesel mechanic or is it NOC 7321 Automotive Technician.
I'm confused because 7321 seems to be aimed at cars and pick-up trucks but 7312 is aimed at heavy vehicles but also heavy equipment? We don't want to send the documents away and apply for the wrong thing!
Are there any other HGV mechanics out there that have challenged "Red Seal"?

7312 is general Off-Road Heavy Duty. I.E Mining, Contruction and farm equipment.
7321 is general light duty On road. I. Big rigs, Busses and heavy pick ups.
Not sure if you can challenge 7312 unless you can prove you have the background. (9000hrs worth or 4 year)
I challenged 7312 through the ITA back in 08 and passed no problem.

So big rigs in Canada are the same as our 18 wheelers? and they would come under light duty?

Its been a few year since i looked into it .. The break down of each NOC might fall into your partners experience but in general a Plant fitter in Canada is 7312 and a truck / bus fitter is 7321.
There are ways around it thou ..
Your hubby could be granted a 4th year apprentership ($28hr where I worked) and then challange 7312 after a year. In BC its not really essential but in Alberta its the Law that you need IP red-Seal 7312 to work on mining equipment.
