Unhappy No PR card blues...

Folks,
Instead of receiving my maple leaf card,
I just got a letter from CIC that the photo for the PR card was not acceptable and I had to go back to retake the photo here in Ottawa.
They already set the date for October 17, 2006 at 9:00 AM.
The problem is I won’t be able to make it at that date. Can I reschedule? How?

Thank You

Hi
Sorry I don't know the answer to your questions but wanted to sympathise as we had the same problem with my son's photo and it led to a delay in his card and a hassle for travelling to UK. Does it not say on the letter how to reschedule?

Question Re: No PR card blues...

The letter only gave me a number to call should I have any question. The number is not working outside Canada. I am in the US finishing my move and house closing. I am moving to Ottawa for good November 1, 2006.
I'll

Get someone in Canada to call and ask for you..... Did you land and leave again without a PR card?

If you have a U.S. passport then you probably don't need a PR Card. You can board a Canada-bound flight with your passport only as it's visa waiver.

You may want to check if an airline is willing to board you on a one-way ticket, but as far as I know, transborder flights are mostly self-check-in anyway and your passport should be enough (if it's a problem, then just buy a return).

When you get to Immigration in Canada, present your passport and COPR - you may get delayed, but you will be admitted.

You don't need a PR Card if you are driving across the land frontier.

All this PR card chat has made me think !

We hope to 'land' in December whilst on a 12 day trip - can we ask that the PR cards are forwarded to a friend's address in Calgary ?

And then, when we finally move over (hopefully next spring) - do we need to have our cards on us to 'get back in' ?! ie, do we then get our friends to post the cards back over to us in the UK so that we physically have them on us (I'm sure I read somewhere that that was not allowed?! )

Or can we just arrive next spring, passports in hand, with our one-way ticket and come through customs like a 'normal' visitor ?

Yes. And friend can forward them to you. Use a courier (not regular post).

It's allowed! Don't believe everything you read.

If for some reason you don't have a PR Card then a visa waiver passport + Confirmation of Permanent Residence is ok, however the airline might prefer you to have a return ticket not a one way.

Alternatively you can get a special Travel Document from CIC in London but this costs money and takes up time to obtain.
