I have an appointment for 30th November in the US. Odd that I should have to have an interview for renewal, when my husband didn’t. His new card just appeared in the mail.

Did you originally get it in the US?

I had to go to Pearson when I got mine.

Yes, when we lived in the US. We had to go to Pearson for the change of address when we moved to TO. We went to the US and Canada office either side of the Whirlpool Bridge (crossing we usually use) when we renewed our US PP….simply because we were crossing the border at the time. The only available apt for months was in the US and I am fast running out of renewal dates. Odd that hubby received a new NEXUS card in the mail, but I have to attend an interview.

Is there something against a Canadian attending their interview in the US? I booked mine for the US side because that's the only place I could get an appt. I still don't think the CBP officers are crossing into Canada yet for this purpose, but CBSA officers are crossing to the US.

Yep it seems to be random whether they select you or not.

I don’t know. When we changed address we went to Pearson and we were interviewed by both US and Canadian officers. When we renewed our US PP, we had to go to the offices at both sides of the border to,update the new details. Again we were interviewed by officers from both countries. I couldn’t get an appointment in Canada before the date of the extended expiry date…that’s the reason I am going to the US. I presume Canadian officers will be there too.

I don't feel like it's gonna be an issue now that the border is open to cross. I am in a few travel groups on FB and there are a few others crossing to US for interviews.

My membership expires in Jan, so I think that means I have 2 years on the extended expiry until 2024, but I wasn't sure if I was going to get issues using an expired card, want to be renewed before expiry. Then this will line up my next renewal nicely for when I have to renew my Canadian passport, so I can get it scanned in for global entry etc at the same time.

You needed an interview for just a regular address change? Or was that because you moved from the US to here? I just moved last month...i updated my mail-to address on the TTP portal, not sure if theres anything else I need to do, was just going to mention it in my interview.

I will try to remember to ask at my appointment. My card expired almost 2 years ago. Hubby’s expired 6 mths before mine. As I said he received a new card in the mail. I assumed I would too and that the delay was because of Covid. Thanks to your thread…it prompted me to investigate.

I don’t know whether it was because we had moved to Canada. Maybe they think I am a dodgy character.

Speaking of the devil. I received an email from them this afternoon saying what you all are. Currently these interviews are only being done in the US and their Canada stations remain closed.

The good news is I checked my NEXUS card and it's good till April 2024. Phew!

FWIW I had my initial NEXUS interview at Birch Bay in US.

Thinking of booking my daughters interview in Blaine. It’s now my nearest nexus centre anyway.

Also need to update my address (can only update mailing address online)

and as the PCR test is due to be scrapped for trips less then 72 hours then why not…

Well what a day. Left at 7am so we would be there for 12.45 apt. Office closed, no one around to ask. Go on line next apt July.

Get to Canadian border kiosk ‘do you have arrive can’? Whaaaat??? 14 days quarantine without it

The nice Imm Officer said park over there and download the app then take it into the Imm Office. We did this and were given the OK

GOZIT make sure you have the app. You also need to upload you vax passport and pcr test

Lots of people sat in their cars trying to get it sorted as they knew nothing about it

It's been well publicised that everyone entering Canada must have the ArriveCan app together with the results of their test and vaccine record.

Yes. We were OK sorting it out but some older people were there and they hadn’t got a clue.

Re the Nexus interview…I had a printout of the appointment with me…stating time, date and location. :frown:

Yikes. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to call ahead to verify the office is indeed open. This is the email I got indicating US centres would be accepting appts as of the 29.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...f26e5ce5ad.png

Let me know if you get anywhere calling CBP or CBSA.

Its good they were lenient re: arrivecan. I've heard of some being forced to quarantine not being given the option to turn around and go back. But yes it is needed for all entries land and air which is a little dumb IMO for a 1 day land crossing but what to do.

Did you guys have to get tested? I thought now there is no pcr test for less then 72 hrs trip.

Yes we got tested because we wanted to make doubly sure.

CP24 reported this morning that there are long lines at the Canadian borders, due to people not knowing about ArriveCan. We always use Whirlpool as it is NEXUS only and there is never a wait either way. Yesterday there was a long line coming back due to this.

Did you get a free test from the hospital or actually pay for one? And interesting to know ok. When was your actual appt day? Was it Monday 29?

Yep, I keep checking for Zoom availabillity, but none are ever available. My theory on this is that some types of interviews are inelgible for an online one and they want you to appear in person. Mine and JG's must be marked as such.

JG - did you ever get an answer as to why no one showed up for your scheduled appt, and did you get it rescheduled?

Re: NEXUS update

BTW - you are lucky they let you pull over and complete arrivecan. I was watching the news last night and there was an Ottawa group of friends who were having issues with the app not loading, figured they could get to the border and explain themselves, but instead were issued a quarantine order with no sympathy from the officer.

I think we must have been one of the first to come back to Canada last Tuesday. By the time we had sorted it out there were a lot of cars in the car park and a long line on the bridge.

Received this email this morning…

“This is in response to your message of December 2, 2021, regarding your NEXUS renewal appointment.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) apologizes for the inconvenience you’ve experienced. Due to a system error you were able to book an interview at a closed NEXUS Enrolment Centre. We are aware of this system error and are actively looking to resolve the issue for members that were affected by it.

As NEXUS is a joint program between Canada and the United States, each country independently reviews each member’s renewal and can approve, deny or revoke membership based on their domestic law. We have reached out to the United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) in regards to your membership and as a result your renewal has been approved. You are no longer required to attend an interview and should receive your new NEXUS card in the mail shortly.”

There is a review on google reviews of a week ago of someone going to that centre and getting their interview done, so my fingers are crossed. Just hoping the border isn't closed again by the time I have to go.

Yay! That was a fast turnaround on the new card.

I got this update from NEXUS the other day.

I was thinking of going somewhere warm for NYE but decided against that. Thinking of a Feb. trip though, only thing will stop me is if they re-introduce 14 day quarantine. I will go back to Malta/Europe in summer, even with quarantine.

This travel restriction business is really getting old. I got vaccinated to return to a normal life, that hasn't seemed to happen. Makes me wary of boosters if they aren't truly going to help end the pandemic.
