Default NEXUS renewal-interview again?

So my nexus expires Jan 2022 and I submitted renewal app. Conditionally approved but they want another interview which is annoying, I had assumed I would just be allowed to renew. They say I have a 1 year grace period due to COVID, I am assuming this means one year after my expiry date where I continue to have benefits. So if I can't get an interview until the end of 2022 (technically Jan 2023) due to covid then my NEXUS benefits are extended.

Is an interview normally required at renewal or is it just arbitrary whether they ask or not?

My husband’s came up for renewal approx 18/24 mths ago. He received an email saying it would take quite a while but in the meantime he could use his Nexus card. He did use it without a problem. Since then he has received his new card. No interview required.

Mine expired about 9 mths ago. I received the same email. Because of Covid I haven’t tried to use my expired card. Still waiting for the new one.

Gotcha...so either I did something that flagged them or it is just random whether you get it or not.

It also could be I was a minor when I got my initial nexus card so this is my first adult one.

I would say it's the change from minor to adult that is requiring an interview. If an interview is annoying then don't renew. simples.

I saw an article saying since the change by the US Gov to the new application system they are requiring interviews for all renewals. And given recent US scrutiny and cancellation of some Canadian citizen/PR NEXUS cards it makes sense they are doing additional screening on everyone.

The interview is not a big deal it is just a drive down to the Fort Erie/Buffalo area, my confusion was more around the continuation of my membership in the event the enrolment centres remain closed for the forseeable (1yr+) future. Then again it doesn't matter so much since if the centres are still closed i doubt i will be travelling anywhere.

My nexus expires late 2023, I’m fully expecting to have to have another interview (I would hope by that time COVID has jogged on!!!). With my current card/first card, my citizenship changed from British to Canadian.

It is what it is!

I had my interview for first NEXUS card set for 3 April 2020. Obviously didn’t happen but I notice the time within which I need to have it has been extended to 730 days, from original approval I think.
