Nexus 5 or OnePlus One

Has anyone tried any of the above out in Canada. And which one works best with the Canadian networks?
PS. As you can see I am trying to get away from the 'flagships' a little bit.

Get away ? Or not go to?
Hard to believe that you had an iPhone and now don't want one? I was a no iphone guy, "maybe coz the Androids was free" but I won't go back now

Except when I'm reversing the car though

Don't you have a rear-view camera?
The great things about the Nexus devices are that they run Android without the crapware that most manufacturers load up their Android devices with, and Google supports them for several years with new OS updates. The downside is that you get new OS updates early, when they may not have been fully debugged

I'd go Nexus. Buy outright from Google and either go with Koodo prepaid or postpaid depending on your needs. SchnookoLoly has posted a good number of very detailed explanations on these in other mobile threads so just search them up

Oh. As an aside I had an android for 3 months then switched back to iPhone. Didn't like it too much. Just a note if you're coming from iPhone, you may love android, you may feel "meh" or you may just prefer iPhone.

Nexus 5 user here, and I adore it. I'm with Koodo Prepaid. My husband and my brother both have a Nexus 5 on Koodo Monthly.
The OnePlus One is a great phone as well, and it's a better bang for the buck, HOWEVER, it is currently going through internal testing for some touchscreen issues... this post - https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/f...roblem.186235/ - gives a bit of detail about it.
OnePlus One's got the right idea with low-cost bang-for-buck phones, but the One is their first model which is bound to have some, er, teething problems.
The Nexus 5 is probably your safer bet.
(It's also much easier to actually purchase - you need someone with a OnePlus One to invite you to purchase it!)
If you look through my post history (or just type "site:British Expatriate Community | Serving the expatriate community schnookololy nexus 5" into google) you will find a bucket of posts I've made in the past about both the N5 and Koodo.
Good luck and feel free to ask here or PM if you have questions.
(but here is better, as then everyone can see the question and answer!)

Yep, I bought outright direct from the Google Play store and am Fido on a monthly plan but not locked into a contract. $40 a month gets me everything I need, including unlimited texts to international numbers.

I also bought a Nexus 5 from the Google store. Love it and no problems overall, I got the Lolipop update recently and seems to work OK.
There is i think a Nexus 6 out or i was told there is ?? might be worth a look but likely more $$$.
The freedom of not being tied in a contract is great i can move cell company as and when a better deal comes up. never going back to a contract again.

The Nexus 6 is Google's fancypants phone, I think it retails for $700 or something. IT's got a bigger screen, newer processor, better camera, and so on.
The Nexus 5 is the slightly more budget option. Good screen, slightly smaller battery, average camera, but a much more appealing price point ($400 or so).
So 5 vs 6 depends on your personal preferences regarding screen size, camera quality, battery size, and general overall price.
(Personally, a 6" screen is way too big for my hand, I barely manage the 5" screen as it is. The camera on the N5 is good enough for me - when we want really good pictures we take our actual camera out, but general point and shoot on the N5, particularly with HDR on, is absolutely fine. Battery lasts a day for me which is good enough, and it has other features like LTE support, an LED light, and so on. But again, personal preference.)

I got lucky to order an OPO last week which is on its way through post. But seeing all the above replies in favour of Nexus 5 it convinced me to look for one and I got lucky again yesterday when I found it on sale for half price ($200 - unlocked) from WIND which should be on its way too.
I don't know how long will both of the suppliers take to post my phones to Edmonton but once I get them then I will decide which one to keep

I'm also using the Nexus. Can't beat it in my opinion
