You'll definitely need to visit Sayward before moving there. It is in a lovely area but the town itself is pretty run down and there is hardly anything there. You'll need to be travelling to Campbell River for most things. Property is cheap there because the local industry has gone. I'm not sure about broadband but cell phone coverage is very hit or miss.

Thanks for that info. I am expecting to lower my expectations on many things and that's OK.

I know too that the area has many older people living there and that's fine as I will be 58 by then so I'll fit in just fine.

The Dial-up connection will work for me as I adapt and change to handle anything thrown at me as one should. Been self-employed for most of my life and I'm not going to change now. Got quite a few ideas for keeping myself busy.
We can buy our property outright and can survive for many years without earning a crust, but under the Entrepreneur scheme we must start a business within 2 years so I'll be busy once we get there.
Interesting about the cell phone coverage - must be the mountainous area I suppose?
Essentially we are looking for an area we can relax in, go at a slower pace than we have been in the UK, and just enjoy the natural beauty of it all. That's why Sayward is in our minds as the number one place to see.
We shall live there for a month or so before buying to see if it does indeed fit in with our plans. Who knows - nothing is written in stone so we please ourselves - I hope!

Have you ever been to a small ex-mining town in Wales? The industry that kept the town going has gone and nothing came along to replace it. That is Sayward.

As for cell phone coverage, once you get north of Campbell River you can't rely on it. It is not just the terrain but also the satelite coverage too.

Sayward is certainly a place where you can kick back and go at your own pace and property prices are good. I hope it lives up to your expectations. If you need to know anything about this part of the Island (we are between Campbell River and Courtenay), let me know - happy to help.

Thanks for the info Lucky Bird - Most interesting.

This kind of feedback enables me to work out a plan long before we get there, I like to do that sort of thing. I still need to check many other things out and to be honest, only a visit will be able to answer some of the questions I have.

But, with great peeps like yourself giving feedback, it makes my formulations so much easier to use and come up with working plans for our business.

Hopefully, when we get to your neck of the woods I'll buy you a nice cold Bud (my fave, along with Jack Daniels :p).

We visited the area three times before we moved here so I completely agree that a visit is a must.
