Fair do's, it's just that I don't think I would choose to emigrate just to end up with a 50,000km commute. I agree with you it's not difficult, it must just get helluva boring after a while.

Compared to the trains in London, or the drives in North Van/Ontario/Okotoks, etc it's not really too bad.

I find it a good way to wind down after a days work....
If you are doing it in an hour you may have your foot pressed a little too hard on the gas

Good stuff, although I doubt those living in Okotoks will appreciate the bashing, lots of them state 15 mins to downtown Calgary is possible

From joining the HWY in Canmore to my parking spot just off the Center street bridge lower-deck is an hour... 97km's.... Using Memorial and starting early, leaving early is the key.... usually cruise around 115km's to avoid being harassed by semi's but not really having to overtake too many times.

As for Okotoks on a clear road maybe.... but we're talking HWY2 here!... Not bashing, just have had many Deerfoot users snigger at my commute, then come in the next day complaining about the traffic!

Boring? No.... Avoiding erratic RV's and wildlife in the Summer, avoiding sliding cars in the Winter.... never a dull moment!

And besides.... there are trade-offs.... You dont have to deal with the crazy weekend ski-field traffic in Winter and when it's too snowy to commute mid-week.... It's easy to get to the ski-hills

Hey... Each to their own!

Suprisingly about the same!.....

I could drive faster in the summer, but the risk of a ticket (higher insurance premiums and/or loss of license would affect my ability to work) for the 10mins saved is not worth it. Besides, it sooo much easier to set cruise and enjoy the view/sh!t-show.

In Winter there is a LOT less traffic (mid-week, weekend ski traffic is a totally different game!), the road is maintained and plowed very efficiently. There were maybe 3 or 4 days last winter where I had to slow to 80 for most of the journey due to blowing snow (if you cant do 60 then it's probably not safe to be on the road at all). Good Winter tires & a soft foot will get you all the way to the city limits, no problems..... After that, well it's Calgary!

Of course on the really heavy snow days I booked a vacation day and headed west instead! (Thankfully my boss is a skier too!)

My wife just started commuting, I don't think it will last any more than a year. Takes her 1hr 20 mins each way going all the way round the stoney. Silvertip is pretty nice Rustic and the Silvertip golf course does good food and they also have a bar grill.
