Hi all, have been enjoying the questions and comments over the last few months. We are in the process of emmigrating to Calgary/Vancouver coming out to Calgary on the 2nd September for 2 weeks for a reccie trip. Hiring a 5th wheel set up and travelling down to vancouver. Do you think 5 days in Calgary surrounding areas and Vancouver 5 days surrounding area enough time to check out Jobs/rentals etc. We are a middle aged couple with daughters who have grown up and moved out, our adventure is just beginning.

We are using our local agent for the immigration process, we are at present having our credentials checked and should have a response soon. We would like to say thankyou for all the information that has been added to the forum, which has helped us fill in the blanks.

I have driven that trip 4 times and you need more like 5 weeks !! 5 days in each area will only show you the tip of the iceberg, The drive from Calgary to Vancouver alone could take you 7 days easy if your stopping and looking at stuff ! I have just done a 5th trip and you need to remeber you aint going at 70Mph, It take you longer to get up to speed and longer to slow down ! so if a trip would normaly take 4hrs then allow 5 or 6hrs because of the house you are towing !! enjoy September, I have done it twice then and its a great time to travel.

Why are you using an immigration agent? they're parasites,and won't do anything for you that you can't do yourself,but you'll have a nice big invoice from them when the time comes.

We did the same as OP last year. We arrived in Calgary, drove to Vancouver, back to Calgary and finished with a return trip to Edmonton. We did this in 2 weeks with 3 young children.
My husband had 3 job interviews while we were here. We did lots of work before hand so knew the areas we wanted to visit. We met up with expats already here and that was extremely useful, they answered all the silly questions you have when you arrive! We managed spur of the moments stops and had a brilliant time, hence we live in Sherwood Park now.
I would recommend you look into where you want to go and investigate any job opportunities before you come. BE is really useful for ideas of where to go and who to see.

Hi there. Can't really comment on whether your timescale will be long enough to check out jobs and rentals etc. It certainly won't give you a lot of time for the sightseeing aspect between Calgary and Vancouver as there are just far too many lovely and beautiful places to explore. However, I guess once you're over here for good, you'll have all the time in the world to explore!

cheers for the replies, just found my dream job in surrey vancouver,Jellybean autocrafts. I am a mechanic for cars/Trucks, restore old bikes, HGV driver, basically anything with an engine and a fire fighter. So hopefully will be able to get into canada with one of the qualifications!

Is there any motorbike/old car enthusiast out there???

Our agent has given us 6 months for us to emmigrate is this being realistic?
At present it has taken 5 weeks and she has sent all the qualifications in now and are just waiting.

Probably not, but depends on what visa route you'll be applying under?

Has jellybean offered you a Job ? is it a skilled job ? If the Answer is yes to both then YES you might scrape by with a 6mth entry, good luck
