Hi all,
As like most people on the site, my family and I are considering moving to Canada, but not too sure where is the best place, BC or AB? Can people advise what is best?

Hello Betsy!
I too am looking into these two provinces!
I would suggest if you are very new to this, in researching as much as you can on the internet and also by reading alot of books. There are WIKI articles at the top of this website you should religiously read through too. Everyone moves for different reasons so what is right for one, won't be for the next.....
As I've been told a million times in my search for answers, is that Canada is so big, no generalisations can be mad at all - they are all local differences.
Find out what is important to you, and try as best you can to match what is on offer. After reading the Wiki's you should have more specific questions, that we can all try and answer for you!
Bye for now.

It'll really depend on where you can get work I guess. If you go the traditional permanent residency route then you've got around 5 years to figure out where you want to live from applying to getting visas so I wouldn't worry about it too much now! Or if you want to do it quicker then you can try and find a job to get a temporary work permit (which then gets you out there much, much quicker) - but in which case you'll just have to go wherever you get offered a job and may not be able to pick and choose! Not sure if that helps at all really? We were originally thinking of AB or BC as well just because of their proximity to ski resorts as we love to ski but we're now considering Nova Skotia or New Brunswick instead. So don't just automatically go west (unless there's a reason of course i.e. family there) - do take time to check out the rest of Canada as well and find out where will suit you best! Best of luck and welcome.

Any hints as to your occupation(s)? This may lead to a suggestion one way or the other.
What sort of climate do you like -- a true four season climate (Alberta and BC Interior) or a mild climate with rainy winters (BC coast)?
Do you like having easy access to the ocean, or don't you care about that?
What size of city or town are you looking for?
What are your hobbies?
I agree with the others about keeping an open mind about other parts of Canada.
I also recommend keeping an open mind about other parts of the world.
Have you ruled out Oz?
If you're still undecided, there's a Wiki article called Canada versus Australia.
If you're definitely set on Canada, you may find it useful to read the Wiki called Idiot's Guide to Canadian Immigration.

Like to say thanks to all the people that have replied, and now we have decided to keep and open mind, we are also looking into Oz as seems to be a bit easier getting into immigration than Canada. We are gonna look into every option possible, as would like to see us leave the UK within the year if possible. For all the people who wonder why UK citizen's leave, here are the answers.........1) the weather is just no good, no summer's anymore. 2) they're is nothing for children and teenagers to do for free, everything is an extortion amount of money. 3) the government has let the British people down, we have no more family values(as stated by UNICEF), we can't let our children out to play, just incase some nutter comes and grabs them.4) Generally we can't enjoy ourselves anymore, everything is toooo expensive.
So being born in the UK, i can honestly say it's time to ship out.
Any advice on Oz would be greatly appreciated, my occupation is in Investment Banking and my partner is a Artworker/typesetter/Macoperator, we like outdoor living and relaxed living, our children are 8 and 4 yrs old, they like the outdoor life too.
Thanks
