Default newbie with questions

Hello everyone!
I am a nurse, and presently waiting for my Formal Job offer from Capital Health.Had my final telephone interview on the 30th of Jan.'08 and have been told i have made it.Its been 3 weeks now (almost),and havent got the letter yet, though i have been assured i'll receive it and LMO is being processed.Questions:1) do you receive the job offer and LMO at the same time? 2) how many days does it normally take to process the LMO? i have read somewhere that it can be expedited, takes about 5 days.TRUE?? 3) do i wait for my WP to be processed, leave, and stay in Alberta for few months then apply for PR under SW?
Your input is highly appreciated.Ta!

Hello, marie therese, and welcome to the forum.

I'm not a nurse, and I've also never gone the work permit route myself. However, I'll try to assist.

do you receive the job offer and LMO at the same time?
To the best of my knowledge, yes. As far as I understand the process, the employer is not allowed to offer you a job until he/she/it has an LMO.

how many days does it normally take to process the LMO?
Since nurses are listed on the Expedited Labour Market Opinion Pilot Project for Alberta and British Columbia, an LMO is supposed to take 5 days if the application is in order. I've seen nurses who are on their way to Alberta or BC getting their LMOs much more quickly than many other people. I'm not saying it always has taken 5 days exactly, but it's certainly been way quicker than the 30 weeks that some people have waited.

do i wait for my WP to be processed, leave, and stay in Alberta for few months then apply for PR under SW?
That's what I would do if I were you.

You can get your PR application fast-tracked. If you don't know the details, see the Wiki article called Fast Track PR Application. For that process, you'll need an offer of a permanent job from your employer. If you haven't yet written the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam, I'm pretty sure you'd need to pass that before your employer could offer you a permanent job. In addition to that, you'd need to establish a good relationship with your employer before they'd offer you a permanent job.

If you have a husband or common-law partner, they will be entitled to a spousal open work permit off the back of your work permit. It would be useful to apply for their work permit at the same time as yours.

Back to the future, eh?

Explanation : A Canadian would think 12/02/08 was December 2nd, 2008.

So, do you have to sit your exam before you start the job, or can you do it whilst working out there. Do you have to go out to Edmonton for your placement interview??

When are you hoping to get out there?
