Hi everyone,
I am currently going through a court case with an application to remove my 6 year old from the UK so that we can live with my fiance (we will be married when I apply for PR) who is Canadian and lives near Vancouver.
My ex husband has submitted a statement to the court saying that he has found information on line to say that if I am unable to get citizenship I will have to return to the UK? I have searched the net and cannot find anything to state this and have not read that on all the information that I have looked at over the last few months.
I understood that you did not have to apply for citizenship (not that I don't want to of course) and could live there as a British Citizen with PR for as long as you wish to.
Can anyone advise on this? He has also written that I am unlikely to be given citizenship?? I am a british citizen with no criminal record and can't see why he thinks I would not be given it if I were to apply after living there for the required length of time!
Many thanks for your help, look forward to being part of this forum.

He's full of shit, you can stay indefinitely in canada as a permanent resident without getting citizenship. The word "Permanent" is a big clue.
Three years here as a PR and a lobotomised monkey with a smattering of english should be able to pass the citizenship test.
Not that that excludes the possibility that he found something on the internet, after all anyone can write anything they like, but he didnt find it from any reputable source. Did I already mention that he's full of shit?

Thank you both, yes he certainly is full of shit to put it mildly.
I was pretty confident he was wrong, but thought it best to speak to those in the know!
