Apologies if you have heard this one many times.
I am very interested in emigrating to Canada permanently.
I currently work as a Customs Officer at Manchester Airport and am wondering if any others have the same occupation or similar and do I qualify as a "skilled worker"?

Any advice and any useful sites would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Have a look through the immigration FAQ, and check out the CIC website for details. There is also a self assesment test there to see how many points you have to see if you have a chance in the skilled worker program. Other alternative may be the provincial nomination program, or family sponsorship if you have family in Canada. There is a lot of info in the immigration forum you can search through as well, and as it is usenet there are a lot more people looking at it, so more chance of finding another customs officer there.

If you have any specific questions about the immigration process, try posting in the immigration forum, or questions about life in canada, come back here.

Good luck

Iain

It is not classed as skilled unless you have a degree. I was an HEO (Band 8/9) and got nowhere applying to CIC here. You will not be able to apply for most Canadian Federal government jobs until you are a Canadian citizen, and as an ex C&E person (1987 - 1996) I can tell you that they do not rate the UK experience as worth a dime. Email me via PM if you want to know more.
