Unhappy New and completely lost, sorry.

Hi everybody,

I know you all probably get the same kinds of questions on here from new posters (may i say this is the best resource i've found i my search for info!) so i am sorry in my vagueness.

Basically, i want to move to Canada but i am completely lost on how to do things, i.e. what order to do things, time scales etc. I've spent a few days searching posts on here and using the wiki but it has confused me further. I am really after a step by step guide on how to do things. I have done the free points assessment and both me and my partner qualify.

Unfortunately thats where i'm at. I work in the IT / Business sector and am looking to move to Vancouver.

I was pretty sure i needed to try and classify as a Skilled worker, but this takes upto 5 years i believe?

Sorry again for my vagueness, i've just been going round in circles for weeks. Any information / advice would be fantastic.

Thanks, Ade

Hello, Ade, and welcome to the BE forum.

I recommend that you read the Wiki called Getting into Canada quickly.

You will notice that the most popular ways of getting into Canada relatively quickly involve finding employment.

So the next step that I recommend is a reading of all the Wiki articles in the series on Job Hunting in Canada.

I suggest that you pay particular attention to the article called Job Hunting Success Story. It started with a single success story, but has expanded to include three success stories. Notice the elements that the stories have in common.

Since extensive reading of the forum seems to have confused you, it may help to introduce some discipline and refrain from reading anything else until you have read all of the above.

Also, I recommend that you read all of the job hunting articles three times. I am serious.

When you have read the job hunting articles a few times, and when you think you understand how that process works, I suggest that you go on to read the Wiki article called Newcomers to the forum. That article has only relatively little information in its own right. Its strength is that it provides you with links to other Wiki articles that you ought to read.

If you're working and can read the Wiki articles only in your spare time, I imagine it'll take you a week to do them justice.

Hope that helps.

Hi and welcome

Judys advise is tops as normal and covered everything.

If you dont want to wait the 5yrs or so that they are advising at the moment, then after you have read the mentioned sections, look at temp work permit and applying for jobs.
To do this re-write your resume (cv in the uk, but never call it that in canada) and start applying for jobs.

Have you been to canada??
Also look at going over and advising companys that you are coming

We have been at this 1yr already and wow my head hurts

In which case, I would also advise you go on a recce to Vancouver asap - there's no point in spending years and lots of money on trying to get somewhere when you may not even like it! Best to get out there and look at various areas to see where you may want to be, and you can do some job hunting and networking while you're out there. Best of luck.
