Hi my husband and I are looking to put our application in to Immigration soon, we will hopefully qualify on points with my education but don't fancy the 3 yr wait. He is looking at going for the PNP with Edmonton Police, so here is my question..
If we submit the form with me as the Principle Applicant, can he be the PNP applicant (as there is no way I would pass the EPS fitness test!). Or does he need to be the Principle Applicant, risking not passing the fitness test and then not qualifying on points either.
We obviously don't want to have to re-submit wasting £500 and several months.

Have you checked with Edmonton Police, it may be that they require a fitness test before applying for PNP on your behalf. In any case I am pretty sure that they will apply for PNP only for the qualified Police Officer (I presume that you husband is a serving officer). If you both are cops than pick the one most likely to suceed and go for it. I retired early to go to Alberta on my wife's skilled worker ticket (early 2004 before you could transfer and when cops scored NIL points for imigration) and we are still bloody waiting to go.

One of you would have to pass all the EPS tests and then receive a formal offer of employment before you can submit your Alberta PNP application. Then you'll need to wait for that to be approved before you sent your permanent residence application to CHC. I'd say get your skilled worker application in ASAP and then see how far you can get with th EPS and PNP. If you succeed it will speed it up, if not you've won't have wasted any time and your SW application will have begun processing. I filled in my EPS application form about a year ago now and am due to start work with them in August so it will have taken about 15 months all in all.

Sorry guys I am not sure I made myself clear, my husband and I are both serving police officers, but he stands a way better chance of passing the fitness test so he is the best PNP candidate. However I score more points than him as I was in education longer, for the purposes of the skilled worked application. If I go ahead as the main applicant under the skilled worker category, with him as my spouse, does it matter if he is the one to go for the PNP or would it have to be me as the main applicant. If he goes in as the main applicant and for some reason failed the fitness test, we are also unlikely to qualify on his points. Confusing I know, that is why I am asking!

I'm still confused over your posts nipperdog and I've read them several times!
You can only apply for one class of immigration; skilled worker or PNP. You can't do both. Which application do you think you would have more success with? Skilled worker applications are taking 3 years +. If you go for PNP then it appears your husband should be the principal applicant as you say he has a better chance of passing fitness tests for the police. Have either of you been offered a job yet? Of course you can't apply for PNP without a formal job offer from an employer that offers the PNP for Alberta.
Does that make sense? Is this what you are hoping to hear? I think you need to provide a few more specific details so that others may be able to help you out. My advice would be go all out for PNP. That's what we did and the whole thing took us a year.

Thank you Rock God, that has kind of cleared it up for me except....we sat some written tests for Edmonton PS last November when they came over the the UK on a recruitment drive, and they said to get your application in first, then when you were ready to go for the PNP they would have a file number to chase up.

That is why I thought we had to submit a "normal" ie skilled worker application first...

Still a bit confusing!! OK, PNP is an employer driven scheme, ie. they do the majority of the work. This is what should have happened as i see it..When Edmonton PS came over and you took your tests, if they were interested in you, THEY should have given you a job offer. On the strength of that job offer YOU would have downloaded the PNP forms from the CIC website, collected all relevant information, ie. police reports, birth certificates etc. and sent it all off to Edmonton PS. THEY would then assess your application and send it to the PNP in Alberta. You then would get issued and sent a letter and file number from the Alberta PNP which you enclose with your immigration application to CIC in London (i think you're in the UK?)
So that's how it should work. I'm still confused as to whether Edmonton PS have offered either of you a job. If they have then you can start filling out the PNP application. No file number though. PNP will issue a file number to you once your application has been submitted to them by Edmonton PS. You get a further file number from CIC once they have received your immigration application (but that's a ways away yet!)
If Edmonton PS said "get your application in first" then what application do they mean? They should never have to chase up a file number... Someone's got it wrong here and it seems to be Edmonton PS. I would say that you need to call an External Recruiter at Edmonton PS and clarify things. Remember, you can't do anything concerning PNP without a firm job offer from them. I wouldn't do anything about applying as a Skilled Worker until you have explored all PNP options...but again, all that starts with Edmonton PS. Call them!!
