Hello
I'm a 25 year old single girl and will be moving from Ayrshire, Scotland to Airdrie in a couple of months and I'm looking for any information that people will think is of interest to me.
I'm also looking for an apartment/house to rent so if anyone knows of any property management agencies or rental agents it would be a great help to me.
I was there for a visit last week and loved Airdrie, there didn't appear to be a 'bad' area, but if there's any areas that you think I should avoid please let me know.
I'll also need some friends when I get out there as I will be working with men and will need some female company after work, so if anyone has any tips on how to meet people over there, that would be great too!
Thanks
Katie

Hi Smelly
It might sound strange but I liked the feel of the place, I'm from a relatively small town here and think I would have been a bit lost in a city like Calgary, so Airdrie would suit me perfectly.
The whole town looked really nice, I didn't see anything I didn't like and the amount of constuction that's going on looks very promising for the future.

Thanks very much! I'm just going to see how it goes at first but hopefully it'll be a permanant move.

If you live in Airdrie, you'll need a car.
There will be social activities that you can participate in locally -- things like indoor bowling and curling.
If you're an outdoorsy person, you may be interested in Calgary Outdoor Club (downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, etc. in winter and hiking, biking, kayaking, whitewater rafting, etc., in summer). Many of the activities take place in the mountains to the west of Calgary, so it'll be irrelevant whether or not you live in Calgary. Membership is FREE.
If you're willing to venture into Calgary, you may be interested in Calgary Culture Club. You can sign up for whichever activity takes your fancy -- movie, ethnic dinner, theatre, museum visit, whatever. Offerings tend to be centred in Calgary. Membership is FREE.
Hope that helps.

Another good site to meet people is www.calgarysportsclub.com.
They organise leagues and tournaments for sports such as football, volleyball, even dodgeball!!!
I came from Coatbridge 2 years ago myself and have met loads of people through it.
