Smile Nerves and Excitement

Morning/Evening everyone!

Wondered if anyone else felt the same as I do now.

Leaving UK for Canada as PR in 8 weeks time! I have butterflies every day and a mixture of nerves and excitement. I can't wait to start our new life, but feel nervous about saying goodbye to parents and family. I guess this is all a natural part of such a huge move.

Any tips

Thanks

Hi

All the best for the move......it is a weird feeling knowing you are moving to another country. I found especially as we were bumping into friends who did not know and it was great to finally talk about it. We had waited years for the PR visa and had not mentoned it.

Where are you moving to? What sort of work are you going to be looking for?

Cheers

JB

when I left, I started a diary of events, things like when the movers came, what we did the last few weeks before we left, weather wot was the last TV show I watched etc... described my feelings when we left the UK and how we felt when landing in Canada, even wrote down my panic attacks, very strange, never suffered from them before....but had a few when we came...I updated it every night, I continued it for about 6 months once we got here to Canada....I love to read it now and again, to see how far I have come!!!

Hi

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just waiting for completion date for house (should be in about 6 weeks) but need to book flight and removal company asap too.

We are going to Vancouver. Was a close 2nd for a job in BC Cancer Foundation that would have started last Monday! But my contact there has some other contacts too...so not too worried about getting charity work. Moving with my hubby, so just the two of us to think about.

A diary sounds like a good idea. I might try that! I've been seeing a lot of family recently and had a lovely day out today with my Mum and Dad. Maybe that's why I feel up and down sometimes.

Juliet C...maybe when you get to Vancouver we could meet up. We have nowhere to live yet. Going to book into a B & B or something for a week or so and start looking for rented apartments. Where will you be living?

We are also leaving for Vancouver at the end of June. I know what you mean, you can go from excited to worried to sad all in the same day, (but glad to say more excited than anything). It feels a bit like Christmas Eve when I was a kid and couldn't sleep because I felt sick

Starting to get a few "last times" now which seems weird. Last ice hockey match this weekend which is a biggy as we have so many friends there!

See you all in Vancouver!

We use Skype.......it is great. You can get a Skype PC-free phone which connects to broadband via Wifi or LAN. This enables you to have an "always on" skype phone in the house which means family can contact whenever without international call charges.

We also have a UK skype phone number which non-computer relatives can call for the cost of a UK local call.

You're in the first two stages of the Kübler-Ross model of emigration. Congratulations and good luck.

Juliet C

Hey all.
I fly out to Vancouver on Tuesday. I too am swinging from panic attacks to joy! I have the hardest goodbyes this weekend - part of a large family where i am the oldest of 7 kids - the youngest being 10. Not looking forward to it.

I remember reading posts like these a year a go thinking what on earth are you worried about! But the reality is so much different.

I am staying with a friend while i find somewhere to rent before my husband and the cats arrive 3 weeks later. I am struggling to find somewhere which is worrying me further!

If only my husband didn't need a blo*dy garage!!

Would love to be part of your meet up in the summer if you work something out.

Claire

Hi Claire,

Yes meeting up would be great! And you'll be there before Juliet or me, so you'll have lots of advice for us too. Let me know how your weekend goes. I'm not looking forward to the hardest goodbyes...we leave sometime in May, but they are not forever. It's just until you see them again and I'm going to be on Skype lots too!

I'll private message you too. Who are you flying with? We haven't found anywhere to live yet. We are looking at Burnaby at the moment, but going to stay in hotel or B & B for a week or so when we arrive, and then enjoy finding somewhere to live. You will find something.

Take care and see you in Vancouver

Niki
