Hi, Just looking for some opinions on Nelson, BC, as a place to live. Has anyone lived there, visited there?

I've visited. There's lots of stoned students.

I used to go there quite a bit for work but it is several years since I last visited.

Nelson is in a quite outstandingly beautiful setting and for an interior BC city the townscape is not at all bad. It is a regional centre for the West Kootenays so facilities and services are reasonable.

It was once part of the hippie trail and still retains something of this. Weed is a part of the economy and open drug use is very common. Nobody really cares less. There is a reasonably thriving alternative arts scene. Also lots of outdoor things to do in winter and summer.

And, TBH, it is just as well because it is quite a lot of effort to get from Nelson to anywhere else. It is a ten hour drive to Vancouver.

If you are fixed with a job or do not need high paying work then there are a lot worse places in the world to live.

A nice summary of the place JonboyE- it was second on our list of possibles although it's isolation certainly counted against it- airport links are unreliable once the weather turns cold and the cloud level drops. Beautiful funky town but as has been said- if you are set up with a job and dont need to travel far then you should be fine
