You are on a visitor visa - the TWP is grinding through the process, albeit slowly, and it sounds like you will want to apply for PR in due course. A few months here or there is not going to make a huge difference ....
No that's not rude at all.

One, I have a PR visa in the pipeline, it's been in the pipeline for nearly 3 years now. Gotta love how slow this process is.

Two, it's about making forward progress, cutting ties with the UK, moving on, taking control of my life again after having lost control of it when I lost my job. A few months here and there won't make a huge difference, but I may go insane if I don't feel like I'm doing all that I can to move forwards in the meantime.

If you don't want to accept what is said here, go into a Service BC location and ask them. If you want info on a RRSP see a professional or call CRA. You will then have definitive answers.

In which case, spend the next couple of months doing research, making appointments with banks or pension advisors and working out where to put your pennies when they can be released. I've spoken to several people and I still wouldn't know which way to jump !

Put simply and with no disrespect,

my repetition was because you made the statement

Get a work permit. Visitors cannot get a SIN.
To which I was reiterating, what I had stated in my very first post, that I have an LMO for a work permit processing. So your statement was somewhat blunt and rudely phrased under those circumstances.

And I may be repeating the question, because

1) someone might know something you do not.
2) I have asked elements of my question which haven't been answered.

Beyond that, I thank everyone for their help and have no desire to get into forum related arguments.

I did ask ask what about in terms of setting up a company.

For instance. My brother, who has a PR visa and is married to a Canadian wants to set up a company. He doesn't have the funds for such a venture. I do. If my money were to go into a company he was setting up, I would want to be able to earn a return upon my investment. Or better yet, I would want to be a shareholder and have a say in how the company is run.

OK, it would be a small business, probably just employing him at first, but it would be an incorporated company (probably an ltd) and would earn an income.

Now that I have a valid Student Visa, how do I go about getting a Social Insurance Number?

I know that it involves going to Service Canada, but I've spoken to two people at Service Canada and got conflicting information.

The first person I spoke to said that once I had the Student Visa, I could come in and apply for a SIN and that I shouldn't start looking for work on campus until I had this SIN.

The second person I spoke to said that once I had the Student Visa, then I should look for work on campus and only then could I apply for the SIN.

I have free time on Monday and I can go to Service Canada if person 1 was correct. Any ideas?

Additionally, will I need a SIN before I can open a bank account with TD?

You need to find an on-campus job first, then apply for a SIN.

Study permit issued by CIC and a contract of employment from the learning institution or employer on campus where you obtained authorization to study by CIC(this contract must show the start and end date of employment and these dates must fall within the study permit dates).

OK, I'm not going to do this, but something I read got me thinking...

What's to stop me from printing off their sample contract of employment, filling it in, getting it printed on the correct stationery and just taking that down? How rigorously do they check into this?

Just curious if anyone has any experience with this process?

Experience with defrauding Canadian immigration? If anyone here has that, they aren't going to go around admitting it on the internet are they.

Common sense one would hope. Otherwise, possibly jail, deportation, never being allowed into Canada again (perhaps other countries too) a criminal record and so on.

Thousands of people. All of them bona fide students with real jobs on campus.
