need help with a financial\legal term
I'm doing some research for something at work (won't bore you with the details) but I'm tired and I've temporarily lost the word I'm looking for. Once I see it I'll know it
its an insurance or legal term term that means a policy or coverage you take out to cover something your insurance specifically forbids.
to give you a non work related example, my old sailing club used to offer a qualification course down in the Caribbean. To get this qualification you have to sail at night. To rent a boat in the Caribbean they usually don't cover you insurance wise for night sailing, so the club took out this "word-that-escapes-me thingy" to cover them in case they crashed during the night sail.
I hope to god that makes sense to someone.

So it's not indemnity then? That is what you take out for specific events that wouldnotnormally be covered. Wiki indemnity and you might get a surprise. If its not that, I can't help.

its not. I'm beginning to think I may have made this whole thing up.
still at least I'm talking to someone. I'm stuck in an empty room at the moment.
(not literally stuck, I still remember how to open a door)

Re: need help with a financial\legal term
Anyone would be lucky to get that out of an insurer!
The term tho OP is looking for has been is as mentioned a 'rider' Something that enhances the coverage on a policy beyond the basic coverage. If the rider can be obtained, the risk is added to the coverages.

does the term "rider" apply when you are additionally insuring against something the primary insurer has specifically forbidden though? the problem in the first example is that if you total the boat at night the insurer is going to come after you for considerably more than the damage you caused because you willfully breached the conditions of your policy
I always thought rider was just for additional coverage.
