Hi i have just completed a VCTC level 2 NVQ in facial massage and am about to take on a Spa course in sept VCTC level 3 NVQ
Are these a recognised qualification in Canada (Toronto) ?
If they are not recognised think i will save my £1400 on the Spa course in the UK.
Thanks

Also, are you aware that beauty therapy is a licensed trade in Canada? I believe you have to retrain and maybe even do your Red Seal to practice it there, but will have a search of the forums and see what I can find.

I received an email from Halifax Immigration in relation to an NVQ Level three qualification and it said the following:
'Your 'diploma, certificate or degree', or NVQ will be considered, please note that this does not mean that they will be recognized by a Canadian employer and/or regulatory body in your field of work.
It is your responsibility to determine what your education qualifications might equate to in Canada. Here are a few websites to start your research:

Well I did a quick search of the forums and it seems it's province dependent - in some it's licensed and you would need your Red Seal and to sit exams, in others you don't. Not sure about Ontario though I'm afraid!
Sorry, probably not much use but at least now you know you need to check it out.

Hi Thanks
only problem that i have is that i am a mature student and have looked at the site above and appears to be for younger students.
Still not sure whether my new course is worth doing...

Red Seal is often misunderstood, it does not cover all trades and is an inter-provincial apprenticeship recognition program. Education is still administered by each province. Many industries have or are working hard to have their apprenticeship program recognised under red seal. Up to now it covers 50 trades.

Massage is not one of them, nor is any health care related occupation.

Hi there
look at the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials. Most trades arent regulated such as aromatherapist but acupuncturist, massage therapist etc are regulated in just a few provences. I'm a physio and like medics have to retake exams to practice anywhere which is a bit of a mare. This site should be able to give you the info you need and you can contact them if your profession isn't on the list.
Hope this helps.
