I have travelled with Transat a few times over the years. Its not that bad. I actually found the Thomas cook flight better than BA, the food was good, films were ok, the only let down was the cramped seats (& im only 5ft '8).
My mum flew out last week and I looked at the breakdown of the cost(it shows you when you book). The cost of the flight is only £50. They rest is tax.

No with the upgrade that is the allowance. When she booked it cost her a hundred quid to upgrade.

The one thing Air Transat have going for them is, they aren't Nationair ! Younger readers may not remember them? Fortunately for travellers, they disappeared from the skies circa 1990 ish.

The Air Transat/Thomas Cook 'experience' is Concorde compared to the departed Nationair. Third & forth generation hand-me-down aircraft & a schedule that was considered on time so long as the flight arrived within the same 24 hour period!

He's often very astute so I tend to believe him on this.

Surely as a successful Dir Eng, you experienced lots of international air travel in Club or First with premium airlines? I imagine it's like having the option to drive a nice Maserati for a while yet choosing to drive a 1988 ford escort

My mum is flying over in a couple of weeks via BA Club Class. The reason? I love my mum

I'd hate for her to start her holiday in a negative way, mingling with larger louts and chavs

I'm not saying your cousin is wrong and he may have had a crappy trip with AT. It's just I never have as yet. Believe me, when/if I do - I'll be letting people know !!

I had to travel once a month for 2 years to Japan so I cant say I haven't had some great trips in business class. I hated the price premium for it and I even offered to travel cattle class but was told it was company policy and wasn't an option

I have also travelled with BA and some other premium airlines and the service etc hasn't been the best so it can work both ways.

I also love my parents and they travel to see my brothers & sisters in Europe, the states and here and for the 6-7 hours the Manchester/Gatwick to Toronto flight and the times they have flown AT they have not had any issues.

I don't know your mother and I don't want her trip to start in a negative way either

After saying all this, when my wife & kids do join me over here, I'll likely use AT but upgrade for the extra luggage allowance and also as it is that little bit extra 'special' for them but still keeping the cost fairly reasonable

Although thinking about it, the lager louts do tend to be a bit portly when I've seen pictures of them in the newspaper

I've picked people up from gatwick and seen the Air Transat check in queue and I tend to agree with him.

He said the seats were cramped as **** and he's only 6'1"

Rather than lager louts and chavs, I'd imagine the average Air Transat passengers to be more like Janice and Ray.
