As a spin off from another thread I did a looksy and found the following link
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_mur
I wonder how this
A) Fits in with the general impression of the world as we see it through our own eyes.
and
B) If the list is so far out that someone knows better.
Covers the period 1998-2000 which I guess reflects the current state as I doubt the world changes that rapidly?
FWIW.
Total crime per capita is similar in UK to Canada.
Total murder is similar per capita also.
No change then...keep locking the doors!

Lies damned lies and government controlled statistics???
Hard to make real comparisons. Anywhere in the world the chances of getting murdered are pretty well slim to none in real terms. I know I dont know anyone whos been murdered, so really it comes down to the perception of safety. IMO Canada seems a lot safer in terms of acts of random violence and petty theft and crime, but then Norwich seemed a lot safer than Leeds, so perhaps I'm just lucky to have ended up where I am now.

I am shocked at the high level of "unpaid diplomatic parking fines". I hope the Winnipeg police take a firm stance against this most repulsive behaviour.
No intelligent comment to make on the stats, need to fire up the coffee machine first.

My point is, there could't be many differences in these figures between two developed countries. But, unffortunately, the difference between Canada and some developing countries could be huge.

One thing I have noticed is how difficult it is to get hold of stats for the UK.
It almost seems that informtion is held back...but perhaps I am not looking in the right place.

Are these figures total number of crime or is it per percentage of population?
